In the past few days, I noticed that the driver side was not receiving warm air regardless of the thermostat setting. The passenger side works fine. I tried cycling through all of the air flow settings, thinking that something mechanical was stuck. I also disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for a while to reset the electronics. No dice. Any thoughts? 2023 Badlands Sasquatch 2.3L manual with High package.

I am currently in Yellowstone on a cross-country trip from Virginia and it gets cold out here in June! Photo of the Badlands in the Badlands for interest.

Most likely needs a new drivers side temperature blend door actuator. But could also be a blend door issue itself also.

Thanks! Now that I know what the part is called, I see you answered the same question back in December. Same issue. Is there a way to diagnose the problem conclusively, or is this a “replace with a new one and see if it works” kind of thing?

Also, is there anything I can try on the road?

Having been having opposite problem drivers side hot and passenger side cold. Happens about once every 20 starts. Turning off car and back on fixes it. Still annoying. The new development today was this over the air software update. Hope fixes?

The blend door actuator in my 03 Explorer failed (the little gear was cheap plastic and stripped). It would move from "hot" to "cold" by itself but not the other way. The car was so old (at that time 15 years or so) it wasn't worth fixing (it required taking most of the dash off and/or cutting a hole in it). But, I could reach behind the dash through the glovebox area and shove the lever that moved door over all the way to "hot". I tied a string to it after.

You might try googling for something like that, but it's a long shot.

Removed the actuator, and make sure the door still moves correctly. If it does, replace the actuator. If the door doesn't move correctly, the whole HVAC housing will need to come out and be disassembled.

Also, is there anything I can try on the road?
Not really. Even to simply replace the actuator, the workshop manual says the whole dash needs to be removed.

So as an update the over the air update did not fix. Drivers side a/c working normally this morning. Turned off vehicle to make a drop off. Starting blowing only heat again on start. Had to turn off vehicle and restart to make work
