I was under the impression that it was a groove in the backside of the cover that creates a weak spot to allow the cover to tear open in a specific way when the airbag goes off, a least on the older ones. No idea how they do the new ones.Your right, Laser Score

That’s what mine looked like prior to it splitting. I noticed it one day and the next it split.Here’s what mine looks like in the Bronco and the truck. Both times on the truck the cover split when it was very cold. I expect that the Bronco cover will also split because it is made from a more rigid plastic, in the truck it is more rubbery.
