Does anyone know what the factory headlight switch WITH the fog light button is rated to AMPS wise?
Would it be safe to hook up aftermarket LEDS to the factory switch if they draw close to- or right at 10 amps?

You can safely wire in some Diode Dynamics SS3 Max (that's what we run) without issues.

So I suspect, And this is truly a guess on my part, is it the factory wiring can provide more amps than the actual factory fog lights use.

I say this because when I pulled off my fog lights, I specifically tested (only one) and it pulled like 0.37 amps or something. I know it was well under 1 amp.

So I was worried, and an ordered some like 14 watt fogs to try to keep the amps down. Then some members talked about how they had installed some pretty decent fogs and haven't had an issue.

So I cancel that order, and change it to some inexpensive, 50 watt Amazon lights. When I tested those, they were lucky if they pulled 1 amp each.

So, I wish I could say for certain, how bright you can buy but I can't. What I can say is that I think with a lot of these being LEDs, they pull less power per watt then the amps/watt calculators. Meaning, it would seem that a 50 watt led fog, only needs like a dozen real watts to accomplish the same brightness.

Old thread I know but I recently asked basically the same question

I ended up attacking my question from a different direction to get an rough answer

It seems the stock (non LED) fog lights take H10 halogen bulbs. Which are rated at 42 watts a piece.

So the circuit should be capable of handling at least an 84 watt (or a roughly 7 amp) draw.

I think that's high. I think the stock fog lights are 20 W for the pair. I replaced my with DD Elites which are 20 W each and they're much brighter.

Which "stock" fogs? The halogens or leds?

I would like to know where this spec comes from. I do not believe the stock circuit is rated that high from what I was told by dealer tech but have never seen a real spec…
According to DD, my DD SAE pro fogs draw 2.7 amps each and they work fine on the stock fog light circuit.
