Is anyone using the Warn Hub wireless controller and phone app? If so, do you leave it installed and plugged in all the time? The instructions say to strap it to the frame, and leave it connected. But if I only hit trails couple times per month, that seems unnecessary, and a lot of wear and tear on the little transmitter living under the frame.

I am leaning toward just plugging the Hub controller in when airing down. And secure the cord with a Velcro strap or zip tie it behind the bull bar. I would still have instant access when needed, then unplug and store the Hub when on the way home... Thoughts?

I have mine permanently installed, and placed it close to the battery. I have the winch cover, and just leave it unplugged under the cover until I'm going to need it.

I use the non-Bluetooth wireless remote, but I take it out when I'm not using it. I worry that the uncovered connection isn't as water-resistant as that big rubber cover.

Thanks, didn't occur to me to leave the connection tucked up under the winch cover. Seems to stay dry under there.

Follow-Up question: It looks like we have the same winch cover - the Warn cover with the FP logo. How do you use those bungee cords? The tightening clips are at the back where it's to close to the grill to cinch once it's on there. The elastic straps seem to keep it on well, maybe those are just for back up?

My concern also. That cover on the winch has been mud-tested and keeps the connection clean. 😂

It's been a while since I put the cover on. I remember is was kind of a pain to get it right. I'm assuming the cords tighten around the bottom to make sure it does not flap in the wind, or worse, blow off.

That makes sense. I always figured that you are supposed to pull the cover off when you use the winch, if nothing else to avoid it getting too hot. But it is probably fine for short use periods.

It has the flap to allow access to the spool so I think you can just leave it on if that's your preference.

I have both the receiver and the cover

I do take the cover off when I use the winch - too hard to see if you are getting the cable bound up if you don't really. The elastic paracords are just to tighten it down to help keep the wind from flapping it around too much. I tie the two ends together in the back by the grill after cinching them up to keep them short and tucked up.

I leave the receiver plugged in full time under the cover, I used some stainless zip ties to make it a bit more pilfer-proof, but it's not perfect if someone were to go snooping under the cover. I also have my winch on a starter solenoid so it doesn't stay powered on all the time. The receiver only turns on when I have power to the solenoid.

I still like the cable remote better, but have to admit having the remote is handy.
