4WP Bronco Rear Bumper - Crazy Deal!

I see that with the bumper off. Just one little two foot wire to the license plate light. So as far as the Bronco goes... I won't need any "stock" wiring.

However, I bought a couple of cheap "Nilight" clear lights that I'm gonna put in those two square holes... so I'll have those lights for backing up at night (I park backwards into my garage. That's the only way it'll fit (rear tire in the way otherwise).

Anybody know if there is aux-switch wiring to the back of the Bronco, and what it looks like (location & color-wise)? My lights are like 2-amps max so I'm not concerned about relays.

There is a wire going to the back you can use, apparently behind the passenger side panel. I'm planning on using the same, but haven't gotten there yet.

Anybody know how to get to that "E" wire? Is it behind the quarter panel, or where the jack is? If behind the rear pannel... any instructions on a 2 Dr (i.e. different from the 4-door Youtube instructions)?

Went looking for this myself, and seems like the 2 door may be slightly more annoying to get at.
This video has the quick and maybe wrong way to get to it, but seems easiest:


And this video seems to be more the "right" way to get access, but involves a LOT of trim being removed.

Well, after looking at those videos, and the amount of "stuff" I have to remove to get to that piddly little wire in back of the passenger pillar...

I'm thinking of wiring my own wires (thinking of a requisitioning standard outdoor extension cord that has a plastic outer-coating and snipping off the mail/female plugs)... and running it along the frame. That gives me two wires to the rear + a ground wire (i.e. two switches worth), plus I don't have to think about how to get the wires from the inside compartment to my "backup lights" in the rear bumper. It would already be where it should be (on the outside).

Plus... I don't have to think about messing up any of the interior panel plastic tabs.

Any thoughts on why I shouldn't do this? I don't see any downside here, and a lot of upside (i.e. two Aux switches + beefier wire)... rather than getting fixated on using the "standard" Bronco wiring that is (for me) in the wrong location anyway.

Thoughts?

Check frequently for insulating cracks, cuts, wear, etc.

Make sure there's an appropriate fuse in there near the battery.

I might not, but doesn't make it wrong.

Aren't all Aux switches already fused? Why would I need an extra fuse if I'm still using the Aux switch for power?

In regard to insulating cracks, etc... I would assume that an insulated wire that was itself within an insulator... would be safe enough (although you did make me think about making sure it wasn't close to a heat source that might cause premature aging).

I missed that you're still going through an aux switch.

I'm extra cautious about all my wiring and where I run it, avoiding heat, audio wires, moving parts, etc. like you say.

I installed the bumper recently, but elected to go with a DV8 license plate relocation solution because I wanted easier access to my spare and preferred the look.

Anywho, in my case only two wires needed, though I did replace the OEM light with the DV8 provided one.

Sure, I need to get better ones in the day. I’m still running my mudflaps because I don’t like throwing crap all over the side of my vehicle and people behind me.

I think the bumper is decent for the sale price, no regrets. May not blend as well into the rear flares but it’s a workhorse so all good.

Anyone running this bumper with a 37" spare tire? The Autoplicity listing says:

• Clears up to 35-inch spare tires

I'm currently running 37" BFG KO2 tires and am curious if anyone with this bumper installed has a 37" KO2 spare w/o issues.
