NOT quite everywhere, but yeah a lot of places. Especially busy metro areas. I'd like to have conversation with some of these peoples mothers...
They are everywhere, just less obvious with less density and less opportunity for "resale".

Wheels locks do work. Some protection is better than nothing.
They will slow somebody down, and that might be enough to have them move on to an easier target. My bike lock is a visual deterrent, but it disappears in seconds with a battery powered angle grinder.

This is the theft analogy to the old saying that you don't have to outrun the bear, just your friends. Sad but true.

Bad people are everywhere.
Move to a place where people don't lock their doors. They still exist but are often very rural.

No, not everywhere. In our rural area outside Memphis, the bad guys respect us, and stay out. And Memphis has some BAD guys. We just happen to be crazier. Crazy always trumps bad.

I have a grade 70 1/2" chain couple with an industrial tough lock that weight 15 lb mainly so junkies don't cut it will take longer with power saw. Have double chains like this securing anything that moves in parking LOL.

Resurrecting. I’ve often thought a defeat mechanism is to run a high voltage current wire through the inside of a cable lock. Thief would have a shocking finish when cutting through the lock.
That sounds like fun, but it's risky. First, extra wiring could result in a short, maybe ignite something? Also, booby-trapping something is legally risky. It's unfortunate, but if somebody hurt himself because of your defensive hardware, you could be sued, maybe prosecuted. People have been prosecuted for booby-trapping their homes.

I have the Advancedlocks.com. They should defeat all but the most well-equipped, experienced, innovative, and determined thieves. Pricey. I think they're worth it. Notice they're conical with unique indentations, so a thief can't buy (or shoplift) a collection of keys at an autoparts store.

My only criticism is that they sell them in sets of four instead of sets of five

you also have to remember them when on a trail... I seem to remember you having multiple sets of locks and no keys when you blew a tire

Nope! my set is five (4 plus 1 on the spare) with two keys. The problem was the scissor jack. Learned that lesson: I now carry a bottle jack.
It was an interesting time: enough guys came out to help with the change, I felt like I was in a NASCAR crew pit! One guy even had an impact driver. But to accuse me of not having my lock key--Fie, fie! Thou dust besmirch my reputation!

@Easy-v You can buy them as a set of five. Advisable, as the spare is probably the most vulnerable to theft.

I forgot what locking nuts I bought but the key is a different size than the lug nuts, so I have to carry a socket set in case I ever have to remove the spare because the stock lug wrench does not fit.

I bought six when I ordered from them. Might want to give them a call.
