How can this be?! I had the same problem 25 years ago with my new Taurus SHO. It would need a new brake booster pump at 10,000 miles. I'd take it in, the dealer would sadly say, "that part is NOT COVERED". EVERY part that I've ever had FAIL on a Ford when in ESP is "not covered!" What is the deal with this, it smells like a clever racket....and did back in 1995 too.
Yeah, this right here is why I put zero faith in warranties.

Order it on-line and never talk to that dealer again...

I replaced it on mine before the TSB ever existed.

Getting a warranty honored in any kind of reasonable time just isn't worth the hassle anymore.
Thanks Zuke. I am fairly handy. USMC trained me as a mechanic so generally I can do things myself. I have been trying all morning to find a manual or video showing the replacement of this part, but I have not found any. I assume most fixes were at the dealer under warranty.

Is the part swap easy? I'm just worried about needing some proprietaty tool to remove or attach vaccuum fittings, or maybe some diagnostic tool I need to reset or calibrate beyond what I could do in Forscan.

If you can tell me this is a walk in the park swap - I'll call them today and tell them I'm coming to get it.

PS - thanks for the link to the recent part. The TSB shows the "H" part and the dealer said there was a more recent one, but I had not been able to locate that yet either.

Easy to swap. Those vacuum fittings are ... odd and a pain, but do not require a special tool. They have a plastic clip that holds them in, similar to a fuel line, but worked out with a flat head easy enough.

I broke the plastic latch on one of mine futzing around with it, but a ziptie around it holds better than the latches ever would anyway.

Yup, It's an easy swap....

It's three quick disconnects, and some tie wraps.

Just noticed this mabett video;

As an aid to what you're going to replace... the floppy thing they show in the front is the line you'll be replacing...

Sorry, but isn't this a critical safety issue that should be handled with a recall?

I think Ford's take is that because there is no loss of braking (IE, You lose assist and the pedal gets hard to push, But as long as you've been doing your 300lb leg presses, you'll be fine!)

But when you're sitting on a hill and suddenly lose assist, It's real hard to process that quickly in your mind while you're trying to react! And a large percentage of living drivers have never driven a vehicle without power brakes, so don't even understand what's going on..

This: a large percentage of living drivers have never driven a vehicle without power brakes, so don't even understand

I know what's going on and what to do about loss of brake assist, I'll bet 90% have no idea at all. This and your comment about rolling into an intersection when stopped should make this a recall.

And I took my Bronco in yesterday for the horrible window rattle fix they just came out with...guess what they just told me? "Part is not covered." SSM 53981 to fix a known issue - but sorry, you gotta pay over $1000 to fix what I've suffered with for 4 years.
