I'm not surprised at all that the Bronco did well in this event.
Other than being taller than a Rally car, it feels pretty well suited to this type of challenge

I've run a few events called the 24 Hours of Appalachia, which is a rally, not a race (they don't want it called a race), that is run on public roads, trails, forest service roads, etc.

The Bronco has performed spectacularly, particularly in the forest service road sections & the short paved sections. I think the combo of the Advanced Transfer case 4A & the IFS makes it way better than all the Jeeps on those areas.
Predictably, where I've lost time is in being a little more careful while navigating some of the more challenging, technical sections, rather than just bashing through with a 1 ton solid front axle....
Mind you, I'm still running with the Jeeps & doing everything they do, I'm just being a touch more careful

But overall, it's been a blast.

If you're in the WV/PA/TN/KY/OH area, look them up & think about joining.
I'd love to have more than 3/4 Broncos in each event!

We're even doing a 1000 mile, Baja style rally next summer from WV to KY.

Did the 3-day RWD class in a Subaru BRZ 10 years ago - most fun I've ever had in a car. Would be awesome to take my Wildtrak there. They would definitely need to do more course maintenance afterward simply due to the tire size (~205 vs. 315) and torque.
The 3-day DirtFish course is on my radar for this winter. It looks like a blast!
Eric had his 2-door Wildtrak out there and had a great time in it:

Great photos and super cool event. Makes me want to move the PNW.
Thanks! We really are spoiled up here 😃

Years ago when I still lived in Colorado the local rallycross organizer excluded SUVs and pickups as they had someone roll one and the organizers insurance said they won't cover any liability cases for vehicles with a high center of gravity. So just a heads up that if you plan to join an event, check with them that the Bronco is ok to take there.
Good point! The rules for this group are that the vehicle needs to be wider than tall with a max width and height of 80". A stock Sasquatch Bronco meets these rules. They made an exception for my width of 81.5" (due to the 0 offset wheels). Some of the cone gates were tight though!

I'm not surprised at all that the Bronco did well in this event.

Those sound like great events! These are incredibly capable vehicles and every time I use it for something new, I am left even more impressed.

For people thinking about this, I'd offer a few suggestions. Get some sort of track tape installed if you can - that surface is especially abrasive. When I was there, they mentioned that each car goes through a set of tires every 2-3 days (@$800 or so per set), which is why you are paying >$1000 per day. Would also be interesting to measure your tread depth before and after.

I wore out a brand new set of all seasons on my Subaru on my first rally cross day. It was really dry and the surface really rough. After that I used actual hard compound rally tires that I got for pretty cheap and used from a local rally team. Also protect your paint. The Bronco is pretty bad at throwing up rocks on the rear doors/sills.

I wanted to do it this year, I just couldn't. Another stock braptor ran it.

There was a red one in Mothman & a white one at Ohio.
They both did well. I think the red one in Mothman finished 2nd.
And the white one was like 11th or 12th overall in Ohio, pretty much the 1st time those guys had done any real offroading.

Mine is just a wildtrak & we do pretty well, a Raptor should slay these events tbh

Could you run topless/doorless? I wonder if removing some of the higher weight might bring the cg down enough to make it a little more stable. Love the pic of the Broncos in a sea of Subies.

Scott, did you try it with your sway bars disconnected? I wonder if a rear sway at on Eric's might make it a little more tail happy, but flatter cornering.

No. Doors on, no soft tops. . . :( The sway bar does indeed make the ass end come around.

Go do it!
This was at an event at Dirtfish hosted by the NWRallyAssociation Northwest Rally Association

Three of us Broncos invaded and had a great time. Lots of people came up to us, amazed at how well these things dance around!
That does look like fun to participate in, or even just to watch. Living in rock-crawling territory, I'd need to figure out where I could practice so that I could build up my skill set before taking part. If I'd entered that event, I probably would have been at the bottom of the leader board. 😆

I thought I would try a run with it disconnected until I got out there. It was already leaning over in the corners so making it softer up front would not have helped. It was reasonably tail happy if you managed the weight correctly. My biggest challenge was accurately predicting/ timing the power delivery with how the turbo, the transmission, and the traction control (never truly 'off') all play together with the varying traction levels. Getting too little grunt meant the front would lift and it would push, too much and the whole thing would step a few feet off line. Just the right amount would allow it to dig out of the apex and powerslide toward the exit.

I'd think the stiffer side wall and the side biters on those MT Baja Boss ATs were an asset, too.
