I would only use 409 SS in a more temperate climate. Anywhere with snow/salt or lots of humidity you want 304 SS. 409 has higher iron content and will rust a lot faster.I called Holley today to ask about my rust issue and what I got was nothing. After getting connected to 3 different reps, the guy I last talked to said ‘it’s normal for paint to burn off after a few heat cycles and 409 stainless will start to surface rust. Best bet to sand it and spray some hi-temp on it. They won’t warranty unless it rusts thru.’
Wait, did I not buy it painted? Are you guys using regular fricken Krylon? I have painted many, many hi-temp parts and have no issue with off the shelf paint burning off. Even clear. WTF?!?. I honestly did not know 409 stainless would do this as I have had it on MX bike exhausts and never had issues. Last Flowmaster Exhaust for me. My stainless MBRP on my 2009 Ranger is fine, and it has been on the truck for 2 years, and no bed for one year or so.
I bought the Corsa cat back duel exhaust 2 plus years ago for mine which has the 2.7. It Sounds amazing, not obnoxiously loud, and has held up great. I highly recommend it over flowmaster.Bumping the thread because I am considering this exhaust.
Has anyone been using the American Thunder for awhile? How do you like it?
2021 Black Diamond 2 door. I put the American Thunder on a few weeks back and there is honestly nothing about it that I don't like. It's not a game hanger in any way, good or bad, but I'm happy with it. The only time I even notice it is at startup when it's a tad bit throaty. Once the engine warms up, I cant tell it from stock. Even on the highway. I am showing a tiny increase in mpg, but nothing to get excited about for sure. Installed the K&N intake one week prior, so the mpg may be the combination of the two.Bumping the thread because I am considering this exhaust.
