Mall crawler? For now, yes. Although more accurate to call it a brewery and winery crawler. I have no fear of mud though. The only thing I’ll rule out for the next few years is big bouldery trails/ rock crawling. I would have to pull off the side steps and put rails on it anyway. Maybe when the Bronco is older and dinged up and the wife won’t care.

However, I also know plans change. I told myself my brand new 2000 Tacoma 4x4 was for snow only (lived in AK then) and I didn’t want to wheel it. Then a few days after purchase I found a local Tacoma-only off road club, saw some pics, one thing led to another, and next thing I know I’m crossing a fast-moving Alaskan river with water to the top of my 265s (I’ll post a pic later), getting in my first “stuck” high centered on a massive gravel mound, and going home with scrapped up skid plates and a dinged lower control arm that squeaked when it articulated until I had a body shop fix it. Most fun I ever had in a vehicle and no regrets.

You know I never hear people who own GT 500’s or Corvettes get called out because they don’t routinely run them at the track. Never understand why folks who opt not to climb over rocks get labeled “ mall crawlers”. I had an open mind and attended an off rodeo. Had no idea prior as to why there is an appeal to drive over hazards. After completing the off rodeo, I still don’t understand the appeal. Enjoy your Broncos folks.

I assume you have never hiked up a mountain just because you could? ;)

[/ I hike up a mountain because I want to, but I don’t rock climb the same mountain to reach the same destination simply because the boots I have on are rated for rock climbing. Enjoy your Bronco.

Yup. Not ashamed to admit it. I'm retired and I worked for many years to have nice things to enjoy. She gets washed several times each week and the inside gets cleaned probably twice each month. I find myself admiring her and hopefully other people do too. You treat yours your way and I'll treat mine my way. I won't judge you. Never been off road and never had the tops off.

While I respect you taking care of your rig, I’m begging you, please sir - get the top off! - I would’ve been driving a wrangler years ago if I had known the joy of going topless?! 😄

Nope. I’m hard as hell on this truck, just ask my skid plates! Old pic, day two of ownership 😁

It looks like a twin to my OBX SAS except mine has white mirrors (I'd like them black). I also covered door handles with black overlays. Mine has all the SAS gears/axles/lockers, but Camburg suspension. I treat it the way you treat yours. I doubt it will ever go on the trails. Many moons ago I promised to myself never to go camping again. I "camped" in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, and Kosovo. Mud was at times unbearable. I also learned to hate sand.
Glad you’re home. Thank you for your service.

I too had a Wrangler and it seemed that the few times I took the "T-tops" off, we got caught in the rain. The Bronco carries other considerations. My wife and I have talked about taking the tops off on our annual trip to Maine but I don't want to leave them at home and they take up so much room in the storage bag, we don't have room for luggage. So, we've never been topless. Maybe one day when we're doing a short day trip for lunch.

Thank you.

We owned quite a few Jeeps (and two Broncos) before this one. This was a "used" Mallcrawler nicely equipped and locally available (only 15 miles away at the closest dealership). Last vehicle we purchased before this, was a Mini Cooper (she wanted it), and we had to drive to Boise which is SIX hours away. Brutal,....all day on the road to buy a stupid car!

Wife was looking to buy Sahara 4 door hardtop this time but drove home in Bronco 4 door ragtop (I might've had something to do with that, but I'll categorically deny it in front of any authority). I don't think this top will ever come off. We like our vehicles in pristine clean condition, and the dust on the dashboard, vents, buttons, switches would drive us insane (she is still gainfully employed physician......so called "professional deformation" in her case). We are BOTH cleanfreaks. I remember in my younger days on base, cruising around in my CJ with bikini top, and driving home like mad when the storm was approaching. I don't need that in my life now. For "open air" experience, we ride motorcycles (me more than her) and quads. I ride a BMW Boxer, but I don't ride during the "bug season". After a short ride, I spend more time digging bugs out of the cylinder's fins with a toothbrush, than the actual time on the bike.
The "bug free" (and relatively clean!) rides we have on the horseback and go places where no vehicle could ever go.
