Best Rear Cargo Area Storage Solutions?

Can anyone recommend a good rear cargo area storage solution? My current one is a large, "super fancy" cardboard box. That takes up a lot of room and shifts around a lot under cornering.

Can anyone recommend a system that mounts on the back of the rear seats? I have some roll up traction boards, a medical kit, jumper cables, jump box, roadside flares, poncho, gloves, extra motor oil and water bottles in the box. I am not interested in building shelves or installing a large lockable box, just something maybe in bags that will hang off the rear seats and free up some space in the back. Thanks!

For me I didn't want to have to dig to far into the back for some things, so didn't try and put anything on the back of the seats (yet)

Used molle in the windows and on the back door.

With a good rubberized twist tie, it should hold 90% of your stuff without a bag... But if course there are tons of bags you could use to.

If you do try and add something like that panel I have the fire extinguisher mounted to, do know that you'll have to modify the mounting hardware.. otherwise it'll just keep popping out on the trail. I modified some cage nuts (trimmed the flange down quite a bit on one side) and used those instead of the provided hardware

OP, I suspect you’ll get a wide range of answers. There are many products out there. Each of us carries different stuff for different purposes. I like this mountains2metal tip up shelf. I keep my recovery gear zip tied to it.

Link says they're sold out, but you can still find them other places I think.

Not to turn this into a review, but while I like the RTR carrier, I wouldn't recommend it... Powder coat is inferior and rear camera shakes because of poor mounting solution when using stock rims.

Rockworkx thumb fasteners and straps (great for getting reusable grocery bags off the floor and to keep them from sliding in the back), they also add some color/flair to the back. Mabett hooks also work well (appear to be in the pic above). I also have the Course Motorsports plate and fire extinguisher (similar to the above) and the Havoc Molle panel.

For me, anything trying to stay on the floor and not slide around is a losing proposition, so making use of the side/tailgate areas is essential.

There was a recent post about a Pelican(?) box that fit perfectly (side to side and front to back) and also was the same height as the folded rear seats, creating a removable flat floor.

I've been on a quest to optimize space lately. My first aid kit is now a pouch that I velcro strapped to the back roll bar, other side I strapped my Noco Boost Case (Battery jumper) so no need for cables. I went to a much smaller tool bag and only carry what I need and in smaller amounts Meaning my impact is no longer in the tool bag, I still have it just separately , smaller containers fit better and can be strapped in lots of places. I still have my viaair bag for my compressor, but would love to upgrade to onboard air. You can run velcro straps to the back of the seats to the bigger pouches that can't hang to keep them from sliding.

Anyway, the point is, breaking down the big stuff into smaller individual stuff opens up lots of possibilities.

I use some Dewalt TSTAK boxes hard mounted with some 3d printed mounts to my slide. It can be configured however I want. There's just a single drawer and open-top box here.

These cargo storage options are for a 4 door with hard top.

just installed the Pura Vida Attic shelf. It has two positions it can mount in…high leaves 4” from shelf to hardtop ceiling. I am not sure how much space the lower mount position leaves. Very well designed, well made and very fast shipping. Allows unobstructed view out the window.

plan to buy a tactical combat rifle bag to hold my recovery gear. Keeping it out of the way but still accessible. Also plan to store a compressor up there too.

I also installed some cheapie bins onto the window sills. These can hold random crap, no lids on these but they are capable of storing more smaller items.

They aren't cheap... But they're tough and weather resistant and I trust them ... I have a lot of that size case in different colors for either luggage use, camera gear use, or (like those two) tool and recovery gear use. .. acquired over multiple years.

A case that size works really well in the back of the bronco (and they're really manageable in general).. and having them be weather resistant means I can strap them to the roof rack with confidence if I need more room in the back (have done that for some longer trips). They work well at camp too.

For me the cases work a lot better than building out the back of the bronco. Let's me switch out what I need on demand, and then that ability to strap to the top is a bonus.

You should have tie downs under the blanket, right? I have both of these. I really like the stratchit for ease of use because of its bungee stretch capability as opposed to a ratcheting tie down. Just wish they made one with the rubber pad grip like the STAPPL, which is a bungee bit not as easy to me to adjust length like the Stratchit.
