Thanks for the info. They ordered the Pro cal but it’ll be 7-10 days before it comes in. Kind of surprised that they started without it. They’re saying they’ll have to reinstall the original to read rack before removing it again. Bronco will be living at the dealer for a couple weeks.

From what I understand they may be able to just plug in the original rack without uninstalling the new rack. It's worth a shot anyways. It only has to read the rack it does not need to be functional. Also make sure they give you the pro-cal and find out if they flashed the performance tune in or not.

Depends what they ordered. You can get the tool only for about $500 retail. The tool AND performance tune retails for $875.

He will own the tool in either case, but if he didn’t pay extra there is no performance tune to be installed. Unless you can buy separately from the tool. Makes sense you should be able to but I haven’t seen it.

Thanks again for the help. I ordered the $495 ProCal. Just to get this rack installed. I saw in the description that the ProCal was required but thought it was a scan tool that the dealer had and used all the time. I thought that was a good reason for the dealer install, I wouldn’t have to buy the ProCal. My bad but surprised that they didn’t notice that before they started the install. Live and learn

You did nothing wrong. Just another example of how this whole thing is messed up. You are right, the dealer should be able to hook up FDRS and do this without a $500 tool that YOU have to buy.

And that is exactly what others are doing to bypass ProCal. Except it’s not over a tool purchase — it’s because when you have the ProCal it still effs up! So FDRS, adapter, 2-day subscription and hacking a WT VIN is the bypass. The dealer could do this but won’t because you’re circumventing their circle of effery.

I know it’s cheaper to buy the tool only but I’d spend a little more and get the kit that has the tune with it. Usually you can find a 15-25% off coupon to lessen the blow.

I was looking at upgrading the tool but the dealer already ordered the one I need for this install and I don’t want to complicate things anymore than they already are. I don’t need the performance tunes and probably won’t do anything else but use this to recalibrate for 37s (I think the one I got can do that, but maybe not). I checked out some other sources that seem to be able to beat fords 7-10 days to deliver but if things fall through and I cause the delay, well… that would suck. Busy work schedule for a few weeks so it’s not a huge deal, just want it done correctly.

Quick question for those that have done this install….. I’m having my rack upgraded in a week or so (fords doing the install). I’m currently running the Fabtech Dirt Logics and the Fabtech HD tie rods. I’d like to keep the Fabtech HD tie rods when Ford does the install. Is there a reason I shouldn’t keep them and will the ford techs want to use the ford tie rods? Which way should I go with this? I’m planning on 37s when my GYs wear out.

It was $742 on the ford performance site to install. I think I got 20% off that when I ordered and I thought (incorrectly) that I was avoiding the $500 ProCal expense. Seemed like a good idea at the time

Oh, and they said the Fabtech HD outer tie rods don’t work with this rack and they have to use the Ferd ones. Looks like I have 7-10 days to look into that?

Dealers and the highlighted typically, in my experience, don't go hand in hand. Good luck...

I was able to do it with just procal but needed help from Ford engineers since I had used the procal for performance tune previously.

Personally I can't imagine paying dealer costs for this install. It's not that difficult it's just confusing with the procal issues if you have the FP tune. The software is a little goofy and needs to be tweaked by the FP guys.

I wonder about the installation price. When I see the rack on the ford website it suggests me local dealers with the installation price about 780. My local dude quoted me 3500 with all parts (rack, ProCal), installation, performance tuning and alignment. Looks a little steep compared to the dealer price, but they haven’t confirmed it yet
