Hello,

I scored a set of color matched OBX fenders to install on my unmodified SAS Bronco.

I plan to go wheeling in Moab again this year and I am wondering if once flexed out on the trail there will be any tire/flare interference with regular fender flares on an SAS model.

What do you guys think?

They do not. At least not with the factory wheels.

The Sasquatch wheels will fling all kinds of junk at those painted fender flares though, so if you care about the paint... better add some paint protection film.

Thank you for confirming. I am still on OE wheels.

I wonder if precut film is being sold for the OBX flares.

I'm curious and perhaps I misunderstand. The largest oem flares available are on SAS vehicles. They are larger because they are wider (I do not believe the tire to fender clearance between sas and non-sas is significantly different). What clearance are you concerned about losing?

Probably because the non SAS are narrower. When the wheel goes up and in the tread might hit it. The wider flare would put lip outside the tire. I believe that’s what OP is asking.

Hmmm... maybe I understand. If it helps, I have 35s on my non-sas Black Diamond. Bottom line is there seems to be a lot less flare to interfere. The tires extend much further beyond the standard flare and don't seem to have any affect whatsoever on clearance.

I was worried about the part of the regular flare where it curves down interfering with the tire when flexed out.

last time I was in Moab I saw people on modded Toyotas having tire clearance issues while wheeling and it looked like it sucked, …a lot. They kept having to pick crappy lines not to trigger tire contact on their rigs.

It made me appreciate my 100% stock bronco seeing this and it made me weary of interference issues.

The 5th generation 4runner and 3rd generation tacoma are both notorious for clearance challenges and a whole different game compared to Jeeps and Broncos.

I had to trim my bumper cover and remove my front mud flaps on my 2016 4runner simply because I went to an aftermarket wheel with a bit more offset than stock (even keeping the stock size). And it was not mild rubbing either at full lock.

It's so crazy that Toyota actually would cut the bumper cover on the TRD Pro 4runner at the port when putting the port installed suspension and wheels on. I seem to remember them not doing this on some early Pros when they first came out and having to issue a TSB to dealers since folks were rubbing.

Even doing 33s often caused rubbing with the body mount also and thus the ubiquitous BMC in the Toyota world.

It appears the new generation of trucks from them have largely alleviated this (with 33s stock and reports you can get a 35 in pretty easily), but this was incredibly enthusiast unfriendly for years.

I'm considering these now. Did you ever install those onto your Fender, flares the ppf.
Had a friend of mine who assisted me in installing the PPF. Overall, I say the quality is good enough to keep most of the rock chips at bay.
