Rear driveshaft bushing damaged - service recommend replacement

Hello,
Been awhile since I logged in lol

I have my 2DR badlands in the shop for a 30k service and a few recalls that required reprogramming. I have already had the leaking transfer case and drive shaft replacement last year in the front.

Now I have damage to the rear driveshaft bushing and it needs to be replaced. Has anyone else dealt with this in the rear as well? I will post photos to this when I receive them.

I’m curious if I replace the driveshaft and bushing with OEM will this happen again or is this isolated?

edit: I don’t have a photo from the dealership but I got it back and went under to find what I think they are talking about. What do you think, replace or it’s nothing?

I think they are calling out the small piece of black plastic. I’m guessing I bumped a rock while wheeling.

Yeah I would say it looks like you banged a rock or something but apart from the mud I don’t see other dings or dents.

Not sure if that’s enough to affect the balance or the drive shaft coupling, but it could weaken the overall housing there and more pieces could come off in the future, might get to the point where the pinion seal is exposed, although it isn’t there yet (and may never get there). The drive line won’t fall off or anything - it doesn’t appear to affect the bolting surfaces or anything.

Just odd to see a hunk missing without seeing other damage to kind of explain how. Apart from the mud and that notch it looks really good

Black plastic piece? Are you talking about the missing part on the flange? Because that is 100% normal

I think that’s what they are calling out but I might be missing what they were talking about. I will follow up with the dealer to confirm this is what they said was damaged.

Well hopefully it isn’t what they’re saying is bad, because if so they have no idea what they’re talking about.

That notch is designed to be there, and there is also another matching notch on the opposite side.

Ahh okay, yeah that is definitely the issue. The joint boot is all torn, which is somewhat common.

I remember getting a recall done on something similar. Do you think its worth trying to get this replaced because of this similar recall? I will pay to replace it myself but I haven't changed anything on the drivetrain to cause this so will this just happen every 30k miles? lol

The recall was for the front driveshaft. I’ve never had this happen on my rear shaft, but I know many have. @Bmadda recently made a thread where he upgraded to an Adam’s rear shaft, you may want to look into that instead of another OEM shaft.
