I can’t speak for all dealers, how we handle it is if we have your deposit we consider the car sold until you show up and take delivery or pass. If a customer has an issue and can’t make it in for a week or two due to whatever reason then no issue as long as the customer stays in contact with us throughout the wait period. This gives both parties confidence that the deal will still happen and the buyer isn’t going to ghost the deal. What would you do?
My vehicle arrived at my dealer today. I have plans to pick it up over Presidents’ Day weekend due to work and the dealer is 2 hrs away.
The dealer finance department is pushing me hard to sign all the paperwork now. Says everything will be taken care of on pickup day, so everything will go smoothly.
I have a $1000 deposit on it.
I kind of want to sign papers after I can see the car, touch it, and take a close look at what I am buying.
I already called him out on one of the forms that said I am accepting the vehicle “as is” and I am responsible for all damages. He removed that form.
Am I being paranoid or is this dealer trying to close the deal a bit early?
Edited to add don’t sign papers before you can see and test drive your vehicle. The dealership should work for you and your needs not against you. This business is easy if you treat customers right and do right by them.
