cant do that! needs to match the front or ABS will go APE!
Only option that makes rational sense seems to be regear the portals to get less effective regear, say 1.14, then bump the setting to max. (I swear the Exodus 4x4 video said they regeared, maybe this is why?) I'd still say talk to Quinn, at least they should document it as an issue for those looking to buy. Maybe they could sell it as an optional gearing, or suggest what best to do.

(Also regearing the truck, but then again that seems like a bigger change, if you have the portals uninstalled. I guess the non-Sas higher gearings will work best w/MT.)

Maybe Exodus regeared the diff but not the portal... At least I would not think so. Those are pretty specialized gears. The bearing seats are milled into the housing. Unless they have a set that Identically matches the seats and the matched set allows identical placement, it ain't happening. Now lots of gear sets that match the diff seats.... Because they are so common and because people like to change the ratios.... supply and demand.

I think 74Weld has regeared. Bubba's video was before he installed Rock Krawler, so it was awhile back.

Maybe it was the diff, but I do recall them having a regearing on a video when dealing with portals. They had a gear guy who was talking about getting into whatever it was. I see your point about it being specialized, but not a gear guy by any means, so concede the point.

Edit: Probably just mistaken, since I don't know they have a Bronco video. They did a Jeep portal video.

74 weld offers 3 different gear ratios for the race portals but those are larger with different gears... these gears, while being the same manufacturer and spec are 10% smaller across the board. The race gears will not fit these.

I honestly do not know what Bubba was using. Maybe there is a gear to be swapped in... someone is going to have to show me specs before I believe it though.

I believe he regeared (shorter) in anticipation of the portals 1.22 multiplier. I believe I read or heard (somewhere online or maybe on a call directly with him previously) he was wanting close to a 5.00 final drive ratio with the portals. He definitely did not regear the portals AFAIK.

EDIT (memory started working again):
Months ago when I was first considering portals on my 2.3L MT with 4.7 gearing he definitely suggested to me regearing to get near the 5.00 FDR. I subsequently ended up getting the 2.7 AT with 4.46 gearing (so 5.44) and I am happy with my current power, response, quickness, etc. I have some air flow mods (ingress and egress) still planned... but I am happy with my fuel economy and smiles per gallon currently.

Since in my case I have the Stage 3 rack, RPG dual shear heim setup, and RCV CVs.. I expect if I do break something it will be the R&P gears and I can consider an upgrade then... but I believe my tires are actually my weakest link / first "fuse" at this point.

Well, regardless, still a strange problem. Regear a regear to get less but more anyone?! lol

@Bored I think that's right, he was looking to go lower and they have a video cracking open a portal. That was as far as I got looking. So I probably just mashed the two things together.

Its a little different since he owns a shop that does regears and engine swaps all day long. Its like an oil change for him, for better fuel economy forever. Parts at cost, deductible cause its on a shop/display/marketing vehicle, etc. /shrug

At 5:06 he is talking about the new steering rack.....????

The only mention of a regear that I heard in the entire thing was that the portal "ITSELF" is a regear.

I might of missed something though.

As much as Forensic Files: Exodus 4x4 sounds thrilling, he does say somewhere he wanted a lower effective gearing but we've all had a looong time to get all this screwed up.

In other news, how heavy are the portals themselves? They look like they're 20-30lbs, WAG? Just going off people picking them up.

Someone who just received them would need to weigh them. I didn't ;(

I am running with 4.7 R&P. If I put 40s on with the portals, the driveline will think it is running 33s. That is because the change in gear ratio is larger (1.22x) than the change in tire size (1.14x)...
