Here is a quote for your “3k” portals

IMG_4440.jpeg

So about $18k but that was for the Bronco and my point was that portals for the Bronco seemed much more expensive than portals for other vehicles.

It's ok, really. To portal or not to portal...welcome to 1st world problems :)

Just an FYI - Calgary is in Alberta, not British Columbia (BC).

So part of the cost of the Bronco portals is

1)new larger brake rotors (had to go larger to clear the portal housing. Fronts are off a toyota and rears are custom made.

2) replaces front knuckle. Werewolf and Tibus bolt on to the existing knuckle the end result is almost an inch and a half wider per side than the 74 weld.

3) new rear axle shafts. Hardened 35 (or 32??) spline.

The Tibus (last pricing I saw) are $25 grand through BB... They are nice and I think provide another inch of lift but I prefer the 4 gear straight cut design of 74 weld to the 3 gear helical of Tibus.... I believe the Werewolfs are cast iron and use a 4 gear straight cut (Tibus used to be cast iron but I have been told that they are now Aluminum).

Oh and yes the were wolfs can be outfitted with a central tire inflation/deflation system so you can air down/up without leaving the vehicle. (at additional price and I think you have to use their wheels... they wheels are nice at a +60 offset to help width.)

BIG NEWS!.... 74 Weld is offering a double shear heim joint for the steering on the portals!!!!

For those that have already ordered Quinn will be calling to see if you want to upgrade!... It does require new RPG or Funhaver tie rod upgrade as well.

I have a question on portals, can they be used as a daily driver? Can they be used for highway speeds for road trips?

Yes. At least the 74Weld, but I would think the Tibus too, although they're a bit taller.

As an example, Quinn's daily driver is an IFS Tacoma that he drives all over California to go off roading. He's not towing in or anything. The Taco portals are very similar to the Bronco. He's also said he's had the Bronco on portals up to 100mph.

If there is a downside, it's the gears themselves. You have to maintain the oil and change at 3k, and repack at 100k. You don't put them on and forget it. But you can remove them if you want to sell your Bronco and recoup some of that investment.

i really would love this on my bronco, but still need to find a rich uncle with 20k$!

great discussion on portals vs lifts on IFS
portals will always be better than traditional lift on IFSs, but as I have told quinn many times, that price is too step as the firsts mod, if you mod your truck the traditional way you'll spend way more to achieve less but you can do it over time, as we portals you have to put it all upfront or finance.

I'm already 34k down modding my truck, with camburg UCAs, rockjock track bar and arms, fox 2.5 coil overs, 37s tires, and a lot of other stuff and a bronco running portals will just ... run me over lol, If I could come back in time I'd just order me these portals and the steering rack (which I've been running for almost a year now).

The next step for me is transforming my bronco from mid travel to LT (kit already ordered from my folks at wicked creations, with bypass and bump stops, and 3.5 wider axles, the whole kitchen sink basically), next year I could consider removing all the preload on my shocks and installing quinn's portal set. I'm just a bit ... worry... about the overall width I'd be getting, this truck is wide already + negative wheels + 3.5 wider axles + portals, I'd need me new trails lol. Time will tell.

Overall, best option(if you can) is portals + steering rack + real mt tires + beadlock wheels + a decent mid travel suspension kit. go with that from the start and you'll be known as the jeep eater.

that's my current plan, get the 74weld steering rack and portals sometime in the next calendar year,
then evaluate my needs for armor, bumpers and winches

Everyone defines streetable modifications differently.

I put portals in the hardcore modification category. You drastically reduce your off the shelf parts availability and make it harder to do repairs. I wouldn't buy them unless you can install and fix them yourself. It's like hot rodding a car, you will spend more time making adjustments and tinkering.

Quin and BroncBozo sell portals as bolt on make your bronco better. Your adding additional suspension lash, weight and complexity. Like all things that are complicated they don't age well. Understand there is a trade off and nothing is technically free.

Don't be fooled into thinking you are not going to spend another $10k making the portals work(new offset wheels, welding rear axle tubes, gearing, steering). These are bolt on money pits.
