Any luck with eliminating the turbo lag from stop? I've installed throttle booster, K&N and soon to be intercooler and still have a huge dip when smashing gas from dead stop. If it still lags, I'd probably pass.
Smooth is fast, but I think you're going for loose is fast. Both smooth and loose is NASCAR fast.Yeah it's primarily for downshifting.
For on-pavement travel it isn't necessary at all. Makes driving a little more fun I suppose but that's about it. It does help a lot with off-roading. Your shifts become a lot smoother and it prevents you from "upsetting" the Bronco when going through an obstacle. If you make a rough downshift while off-roading you might accidentally break traction and cause a lot of wheel spin. The rev-matching just helps keep everything smooth. Smooth is steady and steady is fast (or however that saying goes).
Same. It would be odd that a Ford part, installed as required, would void ESP. This was one of the rare times I received logical guidance from Ford.
Harder to gauge/wasn't looking for that before I modified. Lag surely seems minimal, but there's always going to be some spooling/never going to be eliminated.
Call ford performance, tell them where you are and ask them for a dealer that has a clue as far as installing their stuff.
Just my 2 cents. I installed mine in about 15 mins. Instructions are 5th grade level. Plug in save current settings so you can always go back, download and install tune. Done. In my opinion if you follow instructions and install the only tune that is available how can they void the warranty if you push the same button as a Ford tech. Not an attorney but I think it would be tough to defend. Have not seen a post yet of the Ford Tune blowing up a Bronco. Ford would probably not blame the tune they installed and fight the claim anyways. Just my thoughts.
This is not correct. Premium is required with the tune as specified on the ford performance page. The tune advances the timing and allows for more boost earlier in the rev range. Running less than premium with the tune will likely result in knock under load.
Where near Durango are you? Dang that's a ways to go to get to pavement. We have a summer home in Ouray and love the area. Usually go through Durango coming and going. Is your winter driver a snocat?

I've heard the same thing, that the computer controls timing based on gas features, and the tune changes the parameters the computer uses when there's higher octane gas. So using lower octane "tunes out" the change, because the timing returns to what it would be without the tune.
Did you wait to install the tune until after your WT was broken in a bit or did you do it immediately? My 24 HE 4DR will be at dealership around 2nd week of February and I'm trying to decide whether to go ahead and buy the Performance Tune, CAI, and exhaust and have them install it before it leaves dealership OR if I should wait and put a few thousand miles on it first. I'm also not sure if they do any real tuning or if they are just install a pre-configured Tune which has me wondering if I need to make sure they install the CAI and Exhaust first and then the tune.
If you are running a bronco without the performance tune installed then yes, the engine will compensate for running regular, and premium will give you the full performance of the stock tuning.
Interesting. The FP ProCal webpages state "* Premium fuel required*" (sic), so that doesn't seem to disagree. I know I've seen multiple people referring to the computer compensating even with the tune, and I haven't seen any threads about knocking. I know I ran 87 once by accident on a full tank and just seemed to lose some power.
