I ordered the Midland MXT275VP4 radios for both of the Broncos this morning. Has anyone used the aux switch wires for power on these radios or is everyone going straight to the battery? There are supposed to be a set of wires behind the glove box that go to the aux switches. If you are going to the battery, does the radio stay on when you shut off the Bronco? My goal is for the radio to not stay powered with the Bronco off. Thanks for any input.

Yes, aux wires behind the glove box and yes, aux switches go dead when the truck is off.

Thanks. I have my winch direct to the battery and it can be used even if the Bronco is off. I don't like the idea of accidentally leaving the radio on and being SOL when I try to start it later.

Rgr that. May want to think about adding a relay to the winch for the same reason. I'm using a relay triggered by aux switch #1 for my winch.

As a note of advice, you might not have to dig out the wiring behind the glove box. Since I was already having to run the antenna mount to the ditch light locations on the driver's side, I ran the power along the same path, and just tied it in there as it all came through the firewall at the same place.

I installed a MXT575 about 5 months ago directly to the battery. I remove the mic when not in use. I haven’t had any battery issues . I saw a thread were Midland stated that the draw is some very small amount.

That is a good idea. Keep it simple. Less connections, less can go wrong. Where did you ground it? I am probably going to mount the ghost antenna to the drivers side hood also.

(pardon the mess, it wasn't buttoned up at the time)

Lead wires come through the grommet and are tied into a colored wire and the ground on the cowl

I recommend (and wired my Midland MXT-575) straight to the battery so if I have electrical issues with the Bronco the radio will still work.

Just did the MXT575 install last week with the above the glove box mount. Wired with the aux 6 switch and chose 1 of the 2 wires behind the glove box. Aux switch does shut down when vehicle is turned off.

Will be keeping the wires connected the way they are but already ordered the side console molle mount as picture above for the control module. Already have some different mounting options by Tackform for the mic.

The volume from the mxt575 mounted above the glove box was too muffled, so changing locations.
I am going to use double sided tape for the head unit and put it on the left side of the glove box. My speaker is on the mic, so I am good to go with sound. I have a Bullitt Point dash mount system for phones and my GAIA map tablet, so I think I can tie in there for the mic.

Mount it under the steering column. The 575 fits perfectly and you can hear the base unit's speaker.

Edit: Just realized you have a 275. Not sure if that model has a speaker in both the handset and the base or just the handset.

The head doesn't come with a speaker on the 275. Hope that the one in the mic is clear enough.
