So, everyone has an opinion about how things look to them. That doesn't matter, what matters is how it looks to you and your wife.

I have a '23 4dr OBX non-SAS 2.3l with part time 4x4 in EG. I also have the same usage as your describing. Mine gets ~23 mpg, which SAS will not get with the gearing and the tires. It drives smooth down the road, and the little bit I have taken it off road, nothing crazy, it has performed well. Hell, I even pulled my daughters car out of the woods and off a large rock the other night, no sweat. 4L, a recovery chain and pillar lights, bronco didn't even sweat. No rear locker, no front locker, just a plain old OBX "mall crawler". The car accident, that's another story, but my daughter is okay, just shook up and upset.

Here is the location in daylight. The car was high grounded on that big rock. No wheels on the ground.

My OBX is just as capable as any other 4x4, just not for rock crawling.
I love the look of mine, my wife loves it, although not as much as she loves her BB sport, and that is the bottom line.

And yes, even in this configuration, my wife needs to use the running board to get in. I can imagine she would have a hard time with a SAS lift. That may not be your wife's case tho.

Asking on the forums is a good idea for some things, but in other things you tend to get peoples opinions and not good hard data.

If she likes the looks of SAS, and your usage requirements, Maybe get some bigger tires and or lift/leveling kit down the road after you take delivery. Drive It stock for a while, maybe it will grow on her.
Wow, glad she was OK! Thanks for advice, yeah I was mostly just soliciting input from owners to get a better idea of our options.

I read most of the thread, but I gotta tell you, if the wife wants the Sasquatch, you give her the Sasquatch, or she’ll get it somewhere else.

Edit: Oh crap, am I on the right forum?

The 33’s on the Badlands are a close look. Buy some nice wheels and put the 33” KO2s on it.

Just put 33s and the SAS sticker on it and tell her it has the SAS package. She won't know the difference and it will be a better vehicle for how you're going to use it.

Outer Banks with wheels from a wild track build. Exactly what you are describing. I drive it around town. Probably never leave the pavement. No lift needed just remove the crash bars. It drives pretty much exactly the same as it did on stock wheels and tires. Looks much better to me and it cost me exactly $2k for all 5 with 60 miles on them.

This is exactly what I did. I found some take off Badlands wheels and tires. I love the look and no SAS.

This is what I did on my 21 obx, but I kept the wheels. I also got a one inch lift.

Hi all, just joined up hoping for some help. My wife has wanted a Bronco really bad since they were announced. We recently placed an order for an Outer Banks, since I felt that was close to what her use case was. We never offroad, except maybe the occasional trip up to a cabin (which our standard AWD SUV handles just fine). This will pretty much just be used for work commute and errands.

But now that it's soon to arrive, I'm finding out she wanted the Sasquatch package. But only for the looks, not out of any realistic off-road need. While I'd have concerns about noise/comfort/etc. on road, she's driven both and seems fine with it. She says she doesn't like the looks of the Outer Banks standard, she wants the bigger and beefier tires.

I don't want to push her to settle, but I also don't want her to hold off for a Sasquatch, paying a lot more money, and have regrets when the honeymoon period is over.

I've thought about pushing for aftermarket wheels, but not sure that's worth it after labor costs, voided warranty, mucked up gearing and speedometer, etc.

All that to say, hoping for any advice, personal experience, or ideas to help me out with advising her. Thanks!
Sounds like a Badlands or Wildtrak Sas package. If that's what she likes get it if you can afford it. You could "SAS" it yourself with a lower trim and save money. It's all about what you want to spend or have done for you before you get it. There's no "honeymoon" end period... it's pure love forever and constantly on the honeymoon.

I'll comment on the height thing. I do not have any problem, since I'm reasonably tall. However, someone shorter (<5' 10") might have issues, especially if they're long torso. I have to tote a folding step for my 5' 2" friend because even with a step, she would struggle (she has an ankle issue).

I think you should get what your wife wants. If she wants a Sasquatch, know if she's too short to get in easily by going with her to check one out. Then, if she needs it, be ready with some nice Archtype Racing/IAG or otherwise bolt-on step. Ford also offers a factory step option, which isn't off road ready per se but that may not be an issue for you. Of course something she likes the look of.

You could also get the OBX, put in an order for a Sas, and trade it in when the Sas comes in. Keep that in mind, since so far they haven't depreciated that much... yet. Then if she's fine with the OBX, you can abandon the order. Otherwise, you get to be the hero 'cuz she got to drive a Bronco while waiting for what she really wanted! 👀 😁

Do you live in an area with snow? Go with SAS for the 4A transfer case, so nice in the winter.

Practicality aside, SAS looks great and adds some resale value down the road too.

I must be one of the rare ones, who thinks the SAS is a good value-tires are at least $2K for a set, add wheels, the lockers you get, the 4A you get, suspension upgrades-the look, resale, it was pretty easy for me to say-it's a no brainer.

If you end up getting Sas, I'd at least strongly encourage you guys to try off-roading and use the functionality. Even though it seems popular around here, pretend is no way to go through life.
