If you are going with a 38 (or 40 for that matter) you really need to consider a steering upgrade as well.

It's funny, if you go over to the North Texas Bronco Club forum, you'll see we went out to Northwest OHV in Bridgeport today.

We definitely got into some edgy-as-far-as-blues-go territory, like "are we sure these are blue?!?" Probably, but!

We also walked about a mile on course, just going down paths, looking at what we'd find. We found some gnarly yellows, something where with portals and stage 3 steering I'd be fine to go try but others, not so much. I was thinking, without getting in with crews who roll harder, portals will actually force me to find more experienced/better set up wheelers. Otherwise, I can't really use them. To me they're not about finding limits (which are easy with stock), but about going further, farther, than I would otherwise venture.

It's a little bitter to think that. I want to lead those I wheel with to better places, but at a certain point, gear separates you from those who won't or can't follow. Just a thought.

I spent a lot of time a money (at a time I did not have much of it) during the 80s and 90s trying to keep up with some of the big boys.... Like I said... Trying.... Then I had a family. The money was needed elsewhere. It looks like you had fun out there! Good, that is what it is all about. Just remember though, no matter how big you go, there is always someone that will go bigger. Then there is that one guy.... The guy that can wheel some small POS beyond anyone's expectations.... He just has a natural ability to see the lines because in his situation, he has to.... To me, Portals is cheating... (tongue in cheek)... I am old enough I do not want to break down on the trail anymore. Done that countless times. High centering because a rock rolled. breaking u joints and grenading transmissions.... Weird thing, I have never broken an axle. Even when at one time I was running Dana 30s... Can not believe they held up to the abuse I put them through. I guess I just upgraded them before I pretzeled them. Steering gear was always a problem. I guess I am trying to eliminate my problems before I get there.

I'm not so much competitive as an iconoclast. I'm not that good or experienced even, and my Bronco isn't special, even with portals. It does bring up the question though, once my dog catches the portal car, what does it mean? Do I have that competitive edge to go wheel with the betters, if not the best? Putting the cart before the horse, but damn it's a pricey ass horse to chase through the fields. Or can I be satisfied wheeling like a normal person just out for a Sunday? It's a central tension in my life, it tends to infect everything I do. I can be better, certainly have the aptitude, I just don't know I want to go there.

I used to like the parks and the specific trail challenges. Now it is more about going to places I want to go.... Idaho is full of them. Depending on what you are driving, you can drive it or you can hike it. A lot of the razors and ATVs these days making the trail easy. I just do not want to trailer one and leave all my stuff behind. I would rather just drive there... Portals and 38s would just make more options open to me. Snow can be an issue around here as well. I have a little v8 canyon on 35s... not really a wheeling rig, more of a compromise from when I had kids and a couple of English mastiffs. But as the story goes, I stopped to help someone out, The road was sheet ice and I AFTER coming to a STOP I slid into the same 5 foot deep hole they were in. very slow slide. but lockers and mudders and I was up and out of there... Hell the snow was coming in the passenger window and it is a couple inches higher than the broncos window is right now. I have participated in some search and rescue parties. gives me something to do. We have a lot of space and a lot of mountains up here.

Highly doubt. All I got from the convo was stock sas wheel will work. It's awfull tight in there though! Did any 6g ever ship w/16? 6g brakes might not fit a 16 stock.

Maybe...I don't remember, but either way I wouldn't count on a 16" wheel fitting. I'm just a tad concerned that the stock sas wheel may be a little too tight. I never did ask if they tried it, but since their test mule is a Wildtrak I assumed they did. I just asked if I can use my stock squatch wheels and he said "ya should work fine". I'm gonna mock up 1 assy...or 1 front and 1 rear to check before I do the full install. If it wont work I will have to go a different direction

The problem isn't him providing answers, it's me remembering what they were! I will have forgotten all this by the time I actually get them, so I will have to figure it all out again then anyway. l have a plan for what I want to do, and I'm gonna stick to it till I figure out why I can't or till it's done!

That would actually be the nice thing to having an AMA on the forum (if he'd do it, I wonder if he would? ). If it were through the forum or something like that, we'd have that as a record.

I hear what you're saying, but getting a chance to hear what his customers are anxious about or needing to know would be good for everyone involved. It's all speculation anyway, I just think it would be useful.

minimum is 17... Part of the kit is larger disks front and back... Brakes will use the same caliper but it has to be moved out board just slightly because of the portals therefore the larger disk.... So 17 to clear.

I'm not able to spend on these, but with the new prices and changes for 2024 the closest build to my 2 door base Sasquatch manual is now $20k more than the $37K I spent. A BL with no Sasquatch is $16k more, but still need wheels and tires, which you would upgrade to the 40" -42", so this upgrade would be comparable price wise to buying a 2024.

From that point of view, it's a deal... if you have a PP bronco.
