Yeah, Quinn has a whole thing on SnailTrail 4x4 podcast about offsets and how positive offsets and neutral bearing of the wheel is best but not always preferred aesthetically. I think he suggests +26 w/portals, I personally like +35 but those are harder to find (to Quinn's point). I think the portals are total +6/7", which is approaching Raptor widths given OEM rim poke,
I watched that as well... to me he suggested +30 to +50... I told him I was sticking with the stock +30 and he replied "perfect". The Portals are actually +3.5 inch.... The tibus and werewolfs are both about 5 inch.

I couldn't recall precisely (hence the hedge... 😁 ), 7" total. The problem with the positive offset rims, which he talks about in the podcast, is they're just not popular and thus not available generally. +35 is generally the max until you get into the specialty rims. The Icon Rebound Pros, which is what I've been looking at, I think max out at +25. The more positive poke, the harder they are to find.

Very possible... so... possibly a 1 inch suspension and a 1 inch body????
More like 2-3" body lift to daily drive and a sawzall to go offroad.

@BigMeatsBronco has posted some photos of how much you have to cut. More offset drastically increases the cutting. 40s are a whole different ball game on the bronco.

Go buy a 40 and mount it up, because in order to safely drive it has to clear at full stuff.

On SnailTrail 4x4 podcast, Quinn talks about how 74Weld portals starting in September 23 are going to be coverable in the warranty (or something to the effect, I might not have that 100% right). Mopar is doing all in, in other words, but maybe you have to get them installed by a Mopar service tech. Anyhow, that's a big step. And why I feel like they're the future.
I do not think the Mopar deal is a done deal yet but looks probable... Quinn was worried about committing to that big of deal because he was worried about having to ramp up production in a efficient manner..... I think he might be having second thoughts on it... But still leaning toward it.

And Yea.... that is a BIG deal!

And this would be a good reason to limit expectations by showcasing 38's. I get there are tradeoffs and everything. I can only safely get 37's in my garage anyway, at least inflated somewhere near factory spec. I expect Quinn to be upfront about it, and honestly I'm not suggesting he isn't (I haven't talked to him). It's just the nature of the beast.

Yes, I reread what you wrote... you are right 7 inches... I originally thought you were saying per side but you clearly stated total... Yes that puts it within 1 inch of the Raptor doesn't it?...

Our stock SAS rims are +30... Non SAS are +55.... and positive means less poke....

To recap: I'm still all-in on portals, I just have ~$13k to save up for them. Maybe spring 24! If I'm lucky. It appears 38's are the size du jour, even if bigger are possible, bigger poses existential questions that "more lift" doesn't solve (like rub outside the factory spec width). Bigger th0n 38's might be a project, even though (IMO) you'd be setup better than a suspension lift to get there. Positive poke is our friend here, but rim options dwindle the bigger the tire.

Let me know if I missed something... :)

I know, I have been reading about his build constantly and following about everything... A couple differences.... Big Meats is trying to do it with minimal lift, Which a Applaud loudly! He also does not have that 3.5 inch offset. You are right though... that really increases the scrub radius which is where the problems may come from.... But again they (74 weld) are claiming clearance for 37s to 39s... I have sat and watched video of the little two door clearing the 38s just fine on the rocks. The question that is left is where are the 40s rubbing and how much if a 39 clears?

Positive poke to a point is your friend.... then it is your enemy when it comes to scrub radius.... and there in may lie some of the issues with 40s. I think that is why he is highly recommending a positive offset wheel to get that tire back in a bit.

If you are going with a 38 (or 40 for that matter) you really need to consider a steering upgrade as well.

Right. And Quinn may be technically correct, if not performatively accurate, saying portals allow you to spin 1.22 larger tires. You can go up to the larger tires, however at some point you reach factory limits for what the body can withstand without injury. Back to the 38's, an engineer may talk about limits, but demonstrate best case scenarios. Which makes sense, due to the variables.

Honestly, it think it's just late on a Sunday. We're all good. (I mean, 38's are huge!)

Yeah, I've already got the stage 3 billet rack in mind. First portals, roll on stock 35's, upgrade to stage 3, then Icon Rebound Pros w/Mickey T 37 Baja Bosses. Only a cool $32k.

@5GENIDN Bigmeats cut to avoid the body lift. It's one or the other with big tires.

The reason they say 39 clear is bfg makes 39 that are really 38s.
Point taken. I think you are telling me I would be better off with 38s.... Just like quin was doing... Maybe I should start listening to the really smart people in the room.

Thank you Snack....
