I have a 2 doors Badlands SAS with factory skids. I will be needing to do an oil change soon. My dumb question is, do I have to drop the skid to get to the drain plug? I have the 2.7.

If I have to drop the skid, is there a modification like drill a hole in it to make it easier?

TIA

I know it’s not super useful but I had to drop the skid on my 2.3L. 4 bolts and slide it forward. Nothing bad about it. I imagine the 2.7L is similar where they want a skid to protect the oil pan from being cracked open like an egg.

I installed a fumoto quick drain plug and drilled a hole through the Skid for the drain tube to connect without removing anything. Much less mess and no stripped bolts in the future.

Drill the hole with the Skid off the truck, not while it's bolted on. It's so flexible you'll break your drill bit if it's not flat against something for support. Or use a cutting wheel like a dremel.

Yes, you will have to remove two bolts and loosen two more before you get to the drain plug.

Thanks all. I was not worried about pulling it, I was just wondering if I had to or not.

Now I know I can move it.

I like the idea of using a Fumoto oil drain plug. I will look into one and see what I can do.

Just remove back two 15mm bolts and loosen the two between front skid plate. Then slide engine skid plate out. Its easy.

Do you have any pics of this setup? Looking for options as I have to remove at least 2, if not 3 of my ARB skids to get to the drain plug.

Did you get it on Amazon? Or, would you mind posting a link? Have something like this on my 92 MasterCraft and it is so nice. No mess, no fuss.

The rust spot on the Skid Plate is where I attempted to use a drill bit while it was mounted on the vehicle. First time I've seen a bit that large snap. Next oil change I'll use my dremel cutting disc, clean off the rust, and paint over the bare steel. I do a lot of beach driving so salt protection is a big deal.

Should be doing a small lift between now and then so it'll be easier to climb under.

I have a 2.3 and you have to buy the adjustable drain plug. Idk about the 2.7 but I would recommend buying it anyway. Let's you decide the angle you want to clock it so you can point it directly at the hole you drill. The tube I use is their drain kit too. I think it's $10 for the tube and a plastic adapter. It's a pretty long tube but the value is in the ease of purchase not the contents.

I added a cordless impact wrench to my arsenal, makes some things like this a breeze.
