Icon 'Stage 8' Billet kit just installed...and, "oops!?!"

Hello Folks! So, I just had installed the Icon Stage 8 Sasquatch Billet Suspension kit on a 2022 Badlands Sasquatch 4-door (I know, lucky me).

Well, it feels great, but both front tires are rubbing against the b-UCAs (billet upper control arms) when turning about 3/4 to full turn.

I'm running with the 315/70R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tires, on the Sasquatch factory wheels, which came with the 315/70R17 Goodyear wranglers.

The OEM Goodyears, have a 'section width' of 12.7" (actual size, according to TireRack.com)--though 315mm calculates to 12.4";

The Mickey Thompsons has a 'section width' of 12.8" (actual size on their website).

I assume this .1" larger on the MicTs is not a difference maker, there's got to be more than a .1 clearance on the OEM tires designed in the Icon kit.

Anyone else experience this with a similar build & Icon Billet UCA??

"TECH INFO: OEM Wheels & Tires Fitment: Yes"

The TECH INFO also says for aftermarket wheels: "Recommended 17x8.5 w/ 4.75" Backspace / 0mm Offset". Is that not the OEM Ford Wheel specs, too?

No. SAS wheels are +30mm not 0 offset

AHhhh...got it. Thanks for the info. Could it be that this pushes the tires inward towards the UCA?

I think a positive offset snugs the wheels (and therefor the tires) closer in towards the shocks...or am I mistaken?

Yes - +30 offset moves the wheel inward 30mm (1.18 in). That is why you are rubbing if they recommend 0 offfset.

Yes, 0 offset, that’s what I run on mine, with 37s.

I recommend you cycle your suspension, and see if your resi hoses rub the inside of your UCAs. You need to finagle the reservoir, twist it some, to make sure you have correct clearance through the entire travel range.

Not sure how “new” your kit is? Icon made 2 revisions, slightly longer resi hoses, and 180 degree flip of the bottom shock mount, to stop the shock from contacting the tie rods, especially aftermarket ones.

Hey Scott — Thanks for the reply…your bronco looks like the EXO Baja Bronco I saw in the EXO Baja run videos? Is that you??

I was thinking if I needed to now replace the OEM wheels and get new tires due to UCA rubbing with the Ford OEM Sas wheels, that I would consider jumping to 37”…any recommendations regarding needing other mods to do that (tie-rods??).

Anyhow, the kit is brand new, ordered last week, and finished installed today. Does that qualify for the concern you mentioned?

And thanks for the heads up about ‘finagling’…no other modfications to stock suspension (or any other parts involved) but I’ve driven about 20miles, and I did see some fluid leaking on the left front shock when taking the photos above, not sure exactly from where its coming from but it appears it may be from the top, and so I‘m taking it in to my installer tomorrow to check on it.

Does seem to be the case…though I will have to ‘take it up’ with ICON since they guarentee the Stage 8 Billet kit fitment works with Sas stock wheels & tires….

Yep, that’s me. Well, let me rephrase that, Matt from EXO has the same color and slightly different graphics. But my Bronco is in the video too. Going again in August on the next EXO Bronco run. They’re a lot of fun!

Looks pretty good! Looks like you might have an older kit? Not sure, looks close to the tie rod, but that’s not really an issue. As long as your hoses are good. You can buy the plastic spiral wrap. I run it on both my Raptor and Bronco, saves the spring from rubbing.

I have Icon stage 8 tubular with Method 703’s and 0 offset running KM3 37x12.5 r17.

I know it’s not the exact same of course but this setup on the stage 8 has been amazing for what it’s worth and no rub.
