Thanks to re-construction of the streets in my 'hood, lots of sharp rocks, very small leak in one tire....and heading to S. Dakota next week, figured I'd bring a small air compressor. I have a DC to AC converter, but plugged into the rear cargo area socket, it won't run....I wish they'd left the 110 there that they initially had planned.

Is there another way? I know some of you are running small frigs and compressors....

If you want something cheap that'll still get the job done... this guy from Harbor Freight is solid. Definitely not "will work for the rest of your life" quality, but it gets the job done in a pinch.

And of course there are many other companies out there. Viair sells several options, and there are a few forum members that sell inflation kits. @Tricky Dick, for example, sells a kits with air compressors on his website (forgot what the address was, but you could probably message him to find out). Edit: Apparently he was shadow banned, never mind.

Your never gonna run a 110v compressor from the Bronco. Even if they left the built in one, would be no where close to enough watts for a compressor. You need a 12v that clamps to the battery, you can get the little guys that plug into cig lighter, but those are slow AF, emergency only type.

Thanks guys. I think I'll hit Harbor Freight this week....seems like a good option when you're far away from anything!

I have the Morrflate compressor and tubes and it is extremely fast to air up and down. Not as useful if you need to run other things on the air. It's significantly cheaper than the ARB and can do all 4 tires at once. They actually advise against airing up one tire at a time. I assume due to the 50% duty cycle. I got all 4 of my 33" tires from like 18 psi to 40 in like 5 minutes though.

I would not rely on HF for anything mission critical like having to inflate a tire in the back country, 50 miles away from the nearest paved road. That compressor will sit in the back of your vehicle and will take some beating.

The ARB ones are nice but IMO needlessly expensive for occasional use. Viair makes moderately priced ones that work. Note that you should not buy anything for an LT-class tire that runs off a cigarette lighter. The good ones hook up directly to your battery. the Viair 300P works for 33 inch tires

One dual compressor that has been really popular lately is the EGOI Up/Down Air dual compressor:
https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/...oard-dual-motor-air-compressor-system-6-1-cfm

Rated at 6.1 CFM and runs to 150 psi, this alternate compressor is less expensive than the well-known ARB twin compressor.

We haven't tried fitting it to the Grimm compressor mount yet, but will give it a shot to see if it fits.

For the compressor mount, the Grimm Offroad unit fits nicely on the passenger side:
https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/...road-arb-twin-compressor-mounting-bracket-kit

@Tech Tim did a video awhile back showing the How-To behind the Grimm OR mount:

The ARB set up is much cheaper from @4x4TruckLEDs.com

I've seen a couple of people recommend getting something like this - Harbor Freight Power Station. Besides powering your compressor, it might come in handy for other uses as well.

There's not enough amperage in those small cig style plugs for a good compressor.

The best compressors that are portable come as a kit, usually in a bag or a suitcase, and have alligator clamps that go on the battery terminal.

For the price, the ViAIR are great. Inexpensive and will get the job done. I've had mine going on 18 years now (although I don't use it anymore since I rock an ARB).

The ARB are also offered in a portable kit as well but cost more money. BUT you get what you pay for.

ViAIR 400P. $239.95
https://www.4x4truckleds.com/viair-400p-portable-compressor-12v/

This is the compressor I have. You can't air everybody on the trail up with you, just your truck, as it's not designed for long term use. It does not have a pressure switch either which means that as you air up and go tire to tire you need to turn the compressor OFF so you don't overload it. That's not exactly convenient since the on/off button is ON the compressor. So what I did on mine was I zip tied my air chuck OPEN so that way i'm NEVER building up pressure. I was trying to save as much as possible when I bought it.

ViAIR 400P-Automatic. $299.95
https://www.4x4truckleds.com/viair-400p-automatic-portable-compressor-12v/

This is basically the same as the 400P above but it has a built in pressure switch. So it'll turn itself off as you go from tire to tire and it builds up pressure. Much more convenient.

The 400P above are called 33% duty cycles. That means they can run about 20 minutes non-stop (most 100% duty cycle compressors are tested for 1 hour, so 33% gives you 20 minutes of use before they should cool down).

Going to a 100% duty cycle puts us in the next ViAIR

ViAIR 450P. $349.95
https://www.4x4truckleds.com/viair-450p-automatic-portable-compressor-silver/

This is a 100% duty cycle so it'll go for about an hour without issues or needing a break. It's a bit bigger so does larger tires, which means it's a bit faster then the ones above.

Now we bump things up to the ARB

ARB Single Portable. $412
https://www.4x4truckleds.com/arb-high-output-portable-air-compressor/

One of the most popular portable compressors as you get a nice carrying case. It's also an ARB compressor, so they are designed to take a lot of abuse. You can do a 35" tire from 18PSI to 35PSI in 3 minutes.

ARB Twin Portable. $999
https://www.4x4truckleds.com/arb-twin-high-performance-portable-compressor/

The Cadillac of compressors, in a portable setup. This also includes an air tank so you can run smaller air tools. It'll do a 35" tire in 1 minute now.

So those are the portables we recommend.

I don't recommend the harbor freight specials or any other cheap compressor, as they are not going to last you years and years. ViAIR and ARB are designed to last you years and years I mean as I said, I still have my same ViAIR 400P that works great.

The smaller the compressor, the less power it has and the longer it'll take. Any 12V cig plug compressor will have REALLY long wait times as you air up because they just can't deliver the power you need. 12v cig plugs are not rated for much amperage.

And we always have great pricing. Just use the QUOTE button on our website for quotes

If you only do occasional airing down like me the 88P is cheaper, fits under the Bronco back seats and will air up a 33 inch tire from 15 to 33psi in around 2 min. There is a newer 88P SXS model for slightly more money that claims to be 1.97 cfm vs 1.47cfm for the 88P. That should be more than enough for casual use.

Correction - the 88P and 88PSXS are the same compressor, the web site text is incorrect, per Viar tech support

is @Tricky Dick 's website. I have one of his compressors and with a DIY 4 tire inflation setup I aired my BL 33's from around 20 psi to 38 psi in around 5 or 6 minutes. Highly recommend!
