I'm interested in installing the tune on my Bronco but very interested in keeping warrantee on the car....I've contacted my local ford dealer and they are unfamiliar with the tune and aren't able/willing to install the tune for me.....

I understand the process is very straightforward and I'm not afraid of doing it myself but trying to figure out if any way to do so while maintaining warrantee...

So the question is:

Are there any certified ASE/Red Seal folks here that are able to assist me remotely to get this done and documented? I'm happy to pay for the time!

..OR..

Does anyone know of a Ford dealer or ASE/Red Seal certified technician in CT that can do the tune for a reasonable cost?

FWIW…

I installed the tune myself. Very easy…YouTube was helpful. The Procal unit that you download the Performance Tune to also stores a copy of original configuration. This allows you to revert back to stock. And I’ve done that as well with no issues. Not sure if the dealer can tell that a tune was installed and uninstalled??

I was thinking that can be a possibility but concerned if any warranty related issues come around the bend.

Finding an independent mechanic would be the best choice if you want to save money. Just make sure you get a receipt and hold onto it in case a warranty issue arrises.

BUT I personally took it to a Ford dealer because I'm one in the highly exclusive club of manual transmission owners with grinding transmissions, and I wanted to ensure I didn't have ANY warranty issues.

My dealer—Monaco Ford in Glastonbury—will install the tune for you. That's quite a ways from Wesport, but they also have a branch in Niantic that may be a little closer to you??

Cost me 2 hours worth of labor... which... honestly... is high considering it only takes 15-20 minutes to do yourself. But if you combine it with routine maintenance (like an oil change) you may be able to absorb some of that labor cost in other items.

---

Note that if you bought the tune yourself, and want to keep the ability to apply/remove it yourself in the future, you should attach your ProCal license to your Ford Performance account before you take it in. You can provide your login information to your dealer/mechanic, and simply change your password on your account once they are done.

I had the tune installed at my dealer as well in NJ. Same thing..2 hours of labor. I wish I knew about the login information prior, so thats a great point. If you bring it to the dealer they will use one of their email addresses. I tried to call Ford Performance and they cant help with an email address change. I have the dealers login information for now but still want to change it to mine. Ford Performance said they would have to issue me a new License number etc. If I do that then I feel like I would void the warranty from the dealer. Any advice?

That's great advice on the licensing.....Glastonbury is not too bad a drive form me so it's a good option/recommendation.

Has anyone re-installed the original tune? Why would one need to revert after dealer install? I assume this will only make things more convoluted as the re-install would not be done by Ford (unless I spend another 2 hours at the dealer)

Maybe I'm overthinking it but given the issues some have experienced, I'm paranoid leaving warrantee coverage unclear.

The original tune is placed on the ProCal device so you can switch it back as needed. But if you lose the ProCal or it breaks, the only way to get it back is via your Ford Performance account.

I’ve had to switch back to the factory tune before on an Explorer ST for a buddy. He was installing some aftermarket tune and it wouldn’t recognize his Explorer ST due to the Ford Performance tune.

For me… I personally don’t have any immediate need to switch back, but I like to have the option.

Once installed, is the Performance Tune always enabled or active?

can I ask which CT dealership told you they won't do it? I left a msg at Stamford Ford to set up an appt after one of their business managers told me they'll do it when I was there last week

also, like ford accessories, does anyone know if you purchase the tune direct from Ford then choose a dealer to install, or does the dealer do it all for you?

can't wait to have it done!

McMahon Ford in Norwalk was unaware/unable to do the tune install...they were also unclear on the warrantee question so I left it there.

It's good to know that Stamford can do it.....please let me know once you have it done and if you bring your own tune box so I may follow suit.

Having it done at Stamford. They ordered the software. It's a 1 hr install- They'll confirm my date as soon as the part is in hand. I'm in the queue!

They've been great- highly recommend!

@rangnarkon Curious what did you do with the module once installed... my dealer is telling me it has to be mounted (granted he is not the mechanic, just guy at desk) and always on... that can't be right can it? I thought I could just put it away and only connect it if needed after the install is done
It is intended to be left plugged in so you have access to all of the monitoring features, but you don't have to if you don't care about that stuff.

Supposed to go Tuesday - think I’m gonna shop around first
Stamford is a one hour install. I paid for the install and the part when they ordered it for me. I was just hoping to get in sooner than the appt I made that day - but it seems they are still booked. Let me know what you find/do and how you love it.
