Rack-Hack. HOSS 3.0 severe duty STEERING RACK and TIE RODS ...Ford Performance M-3200-WT

I think I'm one of the few people that have had the non WT3 steering rack fail on them in a non catastrophic way..
The steering rack is attached to quite a few sensors that can read over voltage, impeded gears etc. I saw plenty of error messages before my rack officially died.
In my case, it was water ingress through a tie rod boot that had corroded the gears inside of the rack housing over ~12 months or so. The Bronco realized there was a problem eventually because the steering input would require more current than the vehicle allows and the resistance during turning was too great.
If you're worried, check your DTC codes (engine codes). You'll have steering DTC messages without a check engine light for EPAS (electronic power assisted steering) over current or another code for overheating. No light on the dash though (in my case). The check engine light didn't trigger until the rack officially failed and stopped responding altogether. At that point, it was enough to send a fault through the ABS module which shuts down the 4wd system and all of the safety features. Your vehicle is in limp mode at this point with no power steering assist..
Hopefully that's the case here and the effected drivers will get error messages and lose power steering before something catastrophic happens.

When it says, "contact SSSC", that means you don't get unless you've got the recall and it has the problem. K code means your order will get killed by Ford if placed.

I got that exact same response the first place I tried to order my rack from back in October... Then I ordered it right after that from Sam Galloway Ford, and they filled the order with no problem...

I was told that technical/parts info for 23S09 had not yet been released, just the advance notice to get them off the road. Can you confirm that parts list hasn't yet been published? This would explain K code on the part, but no FSA listed...I'm thinking they will orphan the current units out in DCs and supersede the part # so there is ZERO possibility of an affected unit making it on to a vehicle by accident13 in stock at the Detroit warehouse.

Yes I order one In October also came in defective.
Tried three different dealers this week and even though at the time there was stock the orders were canceled.

Thanks Phil! Seems to confirm my suspicion as to why they're canceling orders, they're wanting the recall vehicles to get those parts first. Probably conjecture, but it could also mean the racks in stock are not affected if they're saving them for recall vehicles.

They didn't issue a stop sale that I'm aware of as most places probably aren't stocking these. The order cancellation is likely a combination of preserving "good" stock for vehicles that are currently off-road (undrivable) which is why SSSC (special support service center) is involved. If a dealer has one down, they would call SSSC, give them the information requested and then facilitate the order for that specific VIN. The other reason for the no sale could be related to them pulling those racks and verifying they are or aren't in the affected build range and available for use.

Any chance your rep could give us a thumbs up or thumbs down on units that we have already installed? Or a date code we could check? We have done about a combined 5-6 swaps and 2 units have been defective out of the box. Kinda gives me cause for concern (although the one I have now appears fine). Understand if the answer is TBD, but at least that's something.
