Safelite Windshield Replacement Leads To Worse Damage

Had Safelite come out to the office to fill in a chip in my wife’s Mazda CX-9. Guy shows up around 10, give him the keys and says he’ll let me know when he’s done. The front desk calls a half hour later and says safelite dropped off the keys. I go out at lunch to inspect his work and what was a chip is now a foot long crack. Call Safelite wtf ‘oh yea the chip repair must have failed they do that some time. You’ll have to call your insurance company and we can get you a new windshield.’

This is what happens when conglomerates, in this case, it's Belron (a UK company), buys out family businesses in America and ruins them down because they care more about money than the actual work they do.

I've had a great work done by safelite, but I've always refused mobile service and I always insisted on OEM windshields. It also helped that I always brought the whole crew food. I made them understood how much I cared about my vehicle and would rather wait to get it done right and with the right products. But that was over 10 years ago.

As insurance I get my windshields tinted it really helps chips staying chips and not get bigger.

FYI for others

I almost changed insurance companies after my wife cracked her windshield in her vehicle and realized that windshield replacement was not covered as OEM but restricted to safelite. This very much annoyed me as it pertained to my bronco.

With safelite you lose most of the Easter eggs and logos Ford designed around the glass.

After receiving other quotes it ended up being cheaper coming out of pocket to replace windshield with OEM glass than it did to switch over. So I kept my existing policy, but will come out of pocket in full for OEM glass whenever it needs to be replaced

May not be important to most but as a classic 2021 AMB long term owner it was enough to have my cross shop insurance companies. Something to keep in mind for those reading this thread

Lawsuit for sure. Have you attorney request replacement protocols and training records. The proof you have is overwhelming and you need to have your Bronco restored to as built specs and you need to be compensated for pain and suffering. Easy Win and safelites insurance will pay the bill.

Safelite uses Chinese manufactured glass from Fuyao who has their own glass manufacturing plant in the US as well as China. For this reason alone I prefer not to use them.

Only thing missing is the manufacturing plant sticker. Wish I could buy one and stick it on there.

Keep an eye out for late-model Focus and C-Maxes in local pull-a-part yards; they had the same MAP sticker and often keep them 'till the end.

OP: I avoid companies which have a political agenda on the side. Take note of your insurance company's name.

Sorry to hear of bad experience, I've never really like Safelite because their windshields are shit and chip & crack easier than an original windscreen.

I just got my Bronco today and the dealer offered my a plan that covers Wheel and tire damage and windshields from their dealership using Ford parts. He quoted me $1,495 if I remember correctly for 3 years 36,000 miles. I'm thinking of going for it, I'll have to swing by there and check it out some more and get the details.

How often, how many and what's all covered exactly, but a couple of factory windshields and wheel repairs would be worth it.

I asked the finance guy who also has a Bronco coming if the dealership's service department does five tire rotation when they do an oil change without the push back that other dealers are giving owners, and he said said of course they do five tire rotation without any problems. So I purchased three years of oil changes with tire rotation for $285 figuring I'll do 2 a year or more for less than $50 per visit. If I squeeze a couple of more in it'll be $35 per visit.

I'll use my new Bronco CC and get the points too.

Next it's an extended warranty from Granger, I'll use my Bronco card there for more points too.

Can I use my points towards the Granger purchase?

If I stack enough points from purchase 42,000 (I think he said) plus the 11,000 for putting $3K down using the card and prepaid service and... I'll either cover part of the extended warranty or some accessories.

Be sure to check the fine print on the Windshield coverage. What I read, said it only covers chips and not cracks, they only fix, they don't replace. This was an add on for the service/maintenance plans.

The Bronco CC reward points do add up, in the 775 days I waited for my Bronco, I earned 285K reward points, it paid for part of my extended warranty Plan and the PP money paid for part of it as well as the service maintenance plan.

I was replacing glass in my VW Passat. Had a piece of steel come off a truck on the highway and come right at my head. Glass stopped it and I was very impressed. Safelite refused to tell me who's glass they were going to use. "China". I want nothing that comes from there unless it is the only choice left. I wanted something on par with the OEM glass that saved my life. I went to a local glass shop who the dealer uses. Keep your money local.

After a couple more windshield replacements (and you will, it's a near-vertical windshield made of butter), progressive will just straight up drop you.

My insurance company, USAA uses Safelite also. Safelite SUCKS. All three times I have had to use them there have been issues. You must bet out there every minute watching them.
