I'm looking to fly into Moab in May and attend the off-roadeo. My plans give me 3 full days in Moab. One full day will be the Off-Roadeo, one day will be some hiking, probably arches. I want to rent a UTV my third day. What does everyone recommend? I see there are several outfits that rent UTVs and provide tours. I'm torn between going with a guided tour (never been to moab), or renting for the day and exploring myself. Thoughts?

I’ve used High Point Hummer & Atv to rent a UTV. They are pricey $460+ but we split the cost 4 ways. We had it for 24 hours and did Hells Revenge, Fins n things and one other and used it to cruise around town.
The u drive tour isn’t a bad way to go. 2.5 hours for Hells Revenge and it’s $129 per person (based on 2 people using it)

The shop that does all the work on my RZR is Moab Side by Side Adventures. They are located behind the feed store on Main Street. 435 210-4153. Great people. I don't think they do any guided tours, but they have nice units. Tell Dustin that Jim Z referred you and he may give you a discount.

Hell's revenge and Fins and things are well marked trails, you really don't need a guide.

great feedback. Thanks. I was suspecting i could navigate on my own. Last thing i want is to stuck in a group of people who have never been offroad and go super slow.

First time out there with limited time I would seriously look into a guided tour where you could relax and enjoy the ride. It could save you some serious time and trial and error. There is just so much to see and do that it’s hard to decide. Rely on someone else’s expertise that first trip.

I second highpoint Hummer, specially their Can Am Maverick X3 RS machines. Cheaper fees, free trailer, and top end (rental) machine.

The XP1000 and Can Am Maverick X3 DS models that vendors rent in town are not even on the same planet with almost half the HP of the above.

I'm leaning towards a full day rental of a Can-am Max X3 Turbo 2 door. Plans would be to do Hells Revenge and Fins and Things. I have premium OnX and the trails look easy to follow.

What the though on doing Hell's gate? I've seen a bunch of you tube videos and it doesn't look that difficult in this vehicle. Thoughts?

Hells gate is no problem in a sxs. It’s not difficult in a bronco either. Have fun out there both trails are marked very well.

Follow the well-worn line and you won’t have any issues. 2 seater will be a little more exciting than a 4 seater. I would pull up and watch a couple rigs climb it, give a camera/phone to someone to record your climb and make the run. When I am around I like to record it on my drone and send them the video. If you are there May 2 thru 6, you will be surrounded by Broncos attending Bronco Safari.

What day will you be at the off-roadeo? I’m signed up for the May 5th session. This is super good info for me too because we were thinking of doing something similar! Also whitewater rafting.

Im looking at the 6th. Im flying on the 4th and want to give a day of slack in case of travel issues. Probably plan to hike on the 5th.
