They have antennae for TPMS and it figures out location via signal strength.
That’s pretty slick I must say 👍

Can anyone give me recommendations to non-Ford (aka cheaper) sensors that do work with Bronco -- that don't have to be programmed before installation? I was looking at Schrader, but those all need to be programmed 1st.

Thanks

Getting Started: Before you begin, you will need to drive your vehicle above 20 mph for at least two minutes. Then park in a safe location where you will have access to an air pump.

Might need to set the park brake, have not confirmed yet

Ford Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Reset Instructions
There are two parts to resetting your Ford vehicle’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPSM). For this process you will need to:
(1) activate TPMS reset mode and (2) re-train each of your vehicle’s tire pressure sensors.

Ford Bronco TPMS Learning Procedure? 2U0TdhddsHzZG7S13Ut1Bl1yzy9nvGK60ZM6J2otcUqG6_0JpY

Part 1: Activating Tire Pressure Monitoring System Reset Mode
  1. Place the ignition in the off position and keep the key in the ignition.
  2. Without starting the engine, turn your key to the ON position.
  3. Quickly switch the hazard flashers on then off 3x.
Note: Once your vehicle enters TPMS reset mode, the horn will sound once and a message will appear in the information display. If this does not occur, repeat the sequence.
Part 2: Re-Training Your Tire Pressure Sensors
  1. Decrease the air pressure in the driver-side front tire until the horn sounds once.
  2. Decrease the air pressure in the passenger-side front tire until the horn sounds once.
  3. Decrease the air pressure in the passenger-side rear tire until the horn sounds once.
  4. Decrease the air pressure in the driver-side rear tire until the horn sounds once.
  5. Turn the ignition off.
Note: If at any point in the re-training process two short horn beeps are heard, the reset procedure was unsuccessful. Please try repeating the sequence from PART 1: Activating TPMS Reset Mode.

I am not sure why this topic comes up all the time BUT Ford’s TPMS auto sync. You don’t need to relearn anything. I have ran aftermarket TPMS on 6 different Fords and never had to relearn anything. Just install and drive

I'm thinking when I bought the OBX tires/wheels from a guy... he had taken out the TPMS sensors already. Who would have thought... dishonesty on Craigslist (boo hoo). Oh well, I got them for a good price (< $500).

I took the Bronco on a 20 mile ride... after about 20 miles on the new tires the Bronco display showed a fault on all 4 tires.

Questions:
1) If they did still have the Ford sensors should they have figured it out and synced to them (hope springs eternal).
2) Any good suggestions for an aftermarket TPMS that is just plug-and-play (i.e. no programming)?
3) Any way to just disable TPMS altogether? I've driven 4wds for 40 years... and I've survived OK without them up to this point. Tired of pressing the OK button on startup for the TPMS screen.

Yes. I had a flat, switched out my spare, drove 10 min with a tpms fault on that tire, then the Bronco automatically picked it up, and the fault cleared. Never had to shutdown or restart or do the hokey pokey. It just registered it and cleared on its own.

I had a 2015 Focus, which, to my surprise, would auto-learn (as others have said) the seasonal swap between my summer and winter wheels. Didn't see this feature mentioned in any service manual. I would get a TPMS fault after driving for about 20 minutes and then in less than a day it would clear itself and worked fine all season with the newly-installed wheels. Pretty slick. I expect my Bronco will do the same.

What I find odd is that we've established the Bronco will sort itself out, yet when it comes to a five tire rotation, supposedly there's some calibration re-sync thing that you're required to do.

It's ridiculous. I plan on including my spare in rotation and just drive it until the Bronco figures it out :)

I got new wheels installed today with new tpms. I have driven for over an hour and all 4 are still dashes with the fault every time I start the engine.

What make/model of TPMS did you get? Are you sure they aren't the type (like the Scrader TPMS I got) that have to be preprogrammed before installation? Are they the variable frequency type?

I wouldn't think it would take over 20 miles to sync-up normally.

I bought new Schrader (oem part numbers) sensors when I did wheels/tires and the Bronco would not pick them up. The dealer wanted $199 to program them so I checked with several tire shops. They all wanted $30-40 a tire to program them but since I wasn't even sure if they were transmitting, one shop went out and checked them for me (at no charge). He was getting a signal from all of them so I went and bought the generic Ford TPMS19 tool off Amazon and went through the procedure to relearn the sensors and it worked fine. Here's a link to the tool Amazon.com: OBDMONSTER TPMS Sensor Tool TPMS Reset Sensor Programming Training Tool Tire Pressure Mointor System TPMS19 (8C2Z-1A203-A) : Automotive and it was around $13. Ford charges over $50 I think. You may want to go to a tire shop and see if they will check to verify your sensors are transmitting.
