Manual transmission scraping noise / grinding sound

I've got a '22 Badlands 2D. Picked it up in mid December and it was making the noise from the jump. I didn't really notice it at first given all of the other sounds and the new car factor, but I definitely heard it the first time I warmed it up in the driveway. It probably had about 60 miles on it at the time. At first I thought it was the throwout bearing, but then I found this thread. I'll be watching this closely and I am anticipating an uphill slog getting this repaired. Luckily this is a second car for me but after waiting 686 days for the vehicle, it's a pretty lame opening act.

The TSB is already out, 3 pages in living color. Found it on site! TSB #22-2371.

Was finally able to record the noise from outside the vehicle — currently 52F here, so not as loud as when it’s below freezing.

That's what mine sounds like. Can hear it in 1st/2nd, louder in reverse. Goes away after warmed up. June 2022 build, I'm at almost 15k miles, don't remember when the noise started.

After a cold shot this weekend, I can confirm even after topping off fluid, the noise is back. Also, a coworkers 4 dr/black diamond built approx. 6/2022 with 4k miles is also making the noise even after topping off trans fluid. Will be waiting until Ford makes a real fix to address this.....

Anyone have the photos of the damage to the gears and synchro's and can send them to me?

Does this mean you think the TSB won’t resolve the issue? Have you or your coworker gotten the TSB done yet?

We are Ford technicians. And based on the information I have gone through the TSB part list with my parts manager and none of the parts are updated or changed. The repair to get to the 5/6 synchro is extremely difficult and involved. To go through all of that and put the same parts back in is a huge no for me, and I could complete the repair myself. Until there is a real fix, I will not be doing anything. There are several people on the Facebook forums who have had the TSB performed and the noise returned inside of a week. I will let the gearbox grenade and replace the whole unit long before I tear half of my vehicle apart for nothing. But that's just my opinion....

Do you have a link to those reports? I would like to add the Information to organized thread. So far have only heard reports of 1 person even able to get the TSB done. Everyone else got new transmission and it came back or are waiting parts availability late in Feb.

I was able to find one Facebook post the original post is old but there are recent mentions of the tsb and that the noise came back. Very frustrating since mine is at the dealer today to get set up for the tsb I guess I may be holding off.

We haven’t seen any of these TSB done, noise is back reports here — the only ones we have are 7MT replacements. Can you screenshot those posts or direct them here?

Would the part numbers change if they simply reduced their manufacturing tolerances though? That, in combination with a possible low-fill condition from the factory is the biggest hunch we have at this point.

Any time ford changes a part, the number is updated. In extreme changes the number is changed completely along with a new engineering number. So, in that case, no, there is no chance they changed the part without changing the number. Low fill is possible however that would mean it was underfilled due to the location of the fill plug. Meaning the case was designed improperly. 1/2 qt low on fluid would not cause this issue regardless, especially because there are vehicles this happens to with under 100 miles.

Dropped mine off today to get the TSB done so we'll see how long they have it for. Added my info to the spreadsheet.
