Got both updates (Ford OTA and sideloaded AA 8.6.6), can't get rid of the sidebar for true full screen on the 12" screen. What's interesting is, when I hit the "Fullscreen arrows" on the AA icon, the sidebar disappears momentarily like its going to go Fullscreen but then it just goes back. All that happens is the toolbar relocates to the side instead the bottom of the screen. Would have loved to have had fullscreen GAIA today on our backroads ride

I tried several of these versions on this link, you are just downloading a file then installing. I don't know why it's called sideloading on Abdroid.

Coolwalk looks like just an Android Auto update that came out Jan 5th.

This article goes over an option for clearing your Android Auto App cache to try and receive the update. If that doesn't work you can try side loading and this article goes over that as well.

The big update is available with version 8.6.6250 of Android Auto.

Well this is weird, the update first made my Carlinkit Tbox stop working, it would boot up be recognized as an iphone but the carplay app wouldnt do anything. Finally I did a factory reset on it and its now working again only it wont stretch to fit the screen. My android phone stretches but for whatever reason the Carlinkit wont. Anyone with one of those carplay dongles get them to stretch? My carlinkit sucks anyway, keeps losing GPS and pinch / zoom doesnt work.

I have sideloaded and it still wont work. I think you just have to wait for google to allow your phone to get the "coolwalk" update.

This. I read an article yesterday that said this exactly. It's all done server side so there's no way to force it.

I must be a lucky one. I got my Bronco back in December and have had full screen AA since day one. Can swap between full and split. I haven't tried to have three widgets up(like they show in the demo pics), but I'll try today and see what happens.

Tried everything and got NOTHING .... then i read your comment and VOILA .... a couple of hours ago it was updated.
However i dont see anything spectacular .... the only change i see is the side bar moving from below the screen to the side and back if you want it there. I was hoping more apps would show up on the screen, especially MyQ app .... but its all same old.

what am i missing?

So, IDK what you're seeing, but I'll take a picture of mine in the different configurations so we can compare. Just did fun, open maps and then play music and you should see two apps in split screen. Look at the bottom and you'll see a box with arrows pointing inward or outward-that's the full screen swap button. You can swipe to switch locations and everything looks cleaner in general

As far as full screen apps, I'm guessing Google is getting everything squared away on their end. Considering this is a kind of soft rollout, it's likely they're still in final testing before full release. Also, as I mentioned above, the article I read shows maps, music, and 5 day weather widgets all on the same screen and I only have two of those.

I'm suspecting that as the software proves more stable, we'll see more apps in the fold. IDK how long you waited for your bronco, but I bet the exercise in patience will help with this wait 😉

I heard the biggest change was getting rid of some bugs .... i guess its just a wait and see in the next few months

That's about all you can do. Also, I wouldn't expect anything spectacular. The only thing that I really like is the split screen. It makes much better use of the 12" screen.

Whenever I toggle that function while I'm using Waze it wipes the overlay info off the Waze screen.
Meaning the menu, text, direction, ETA are gone. Only map and the route are showing.
I either have to reconnect or force the app to stop to get it back.

Using Pixel 7 Pro... latest Android 13 build. SYNC is 3.5.3

So, it turns out that I don't know what I'm talking about. The update stuff is probably pretty accurate, but I don't have the newest version of AA. My previous truck didn't have a high enough resolution to run split screen and, because of that, I assumed AA updated when I got my Bronco.

8.5.6 is the first version of coolwalk and 8.6.6 is the version everyone is migrating to.

Apologies for the confusion.

Just adding to the discussion. I have the proper android auto version on my phone and I have received the sync 4 update that allows full screen AA. Until they unlock "coolwalk" server side the experience is still pretty much what I had before. Once they unlock it then you should have much more options on how you want the screen to display Android Auto. Here is what I read:

"Now, I hate to be the one bringing the bad news, but here’s the one thing that you must know about this huge Android Auto redesign: it’s rolling out in stages, and there’s nothing you can do to enable it than wait.

In the last few days, I’ve seen plenty of people trying all kinds of workarounds just to get Coolwalk, and of course, none of them produced an improvement. If it did, it was all just a coincidence, and Google would have enabled Coolwalk on their devices anyway.

In other words, just don’t try downgrading or updating Android Auto to a specific version because that’s not going to work. Furthermore, messing with developer settings, clearing the cache and the data, or resetting the existing configuration won’t bring you the redesign either.

The rollout is powered by a server-side switch, which means that Google will enable the new experience for your device when the company has enough data to make sure everything would be running smoothly. This is a system that gives the search company enough time to guarantee top reliability for its new products, and it makes perfect sense, given major updates typically come with an increased likelihood of bugs.

Google didn’t provide an ETA as to when it plans to complete the rollout of the Android Auto redesign, but the process shouldn’t take too long anyway. Most likely, most users should get Coolwalk in the coming weeks."
