My 1 year old battery in my 2021 bronco has failed. It is internally shorted and just overloads the charger to max amps even disconnected from vehicle. I have not heard of this problem before on these forums. I have seen atv batteries experience this due to rough usage. What brand batteries due the hard core off roaders and racers use. Due you think the warranty still applies to the battery. Only has 18k miles on it

Not surprised to hear the OEM battery died. I know a few people who've had some fairly major issues and have had the battery replaced under warranty already. I would talk to your dealer either way. One of my buddies from this forum has had to replace it I think 2 times now.

His problem was he would go to start the Bronco and the battery would be dead and unrecoverable.

What is the Ford Warranty on batteries?

Original vehicle battery

Ford's original vehicle batteries are covered for recharging and replacement during the first 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Replacement Motorcraft® battery

The warranty on Motorcraft batteries purchased outside of the Bumper to Bumper warranty will vary. See your Ford Dealer or Motorcraft retailer for warranty details and purchase information.

That's what's happening to me, I just need to find a suitable replacement, but unsure of a proven brand. I heard that the optima brand is good but they don't have a direct replacement listed. Any ideas appreciated

Ford Bronco Battery Failure - internally shorted 1663624948370

Double check that this is correct, but my research shows this is the Optima battery that'll fit the Bronco.

Im basing this on the OEM battery listed multiple places on the forum with part number #BAGM-94RH7-800

If that is factual, this is the Optima battery for you. Their website confirms as well but I would double check just to be safe.

The listed measurements (HxLxW) check out, so if he goes aftermarket, then that is probably a good choice. I’ve had good service from Optima batteries over the years, despite online complaints that quality has dropped off in recent years, due to overseas sourcing changes.

However, the OEM battery is still well within the factory warranty, so that’s the cheapest route to go (free), and there is no question about whether it will physically fit or integrate well with the vehicle’s charging system and online charge optimization software.

The original battery just failed early. It happens.

Start/Stop is hell on the batteries. My 2018 F150 had 1 battery replaced under warranty at 1-year for low amps, then 6-7 months later the replacement battery dead shorted at a stoplight when I was out of town. When I say dead, I mean DEAD. No flashers, nothing. Of course I put he truck in park to restart it so I couldn't push it out of the way which made me really popular during rush hour. Had to buy a battery at Autozone to replace it and of course warranty was like "tough luck, not factory anymore."

Bottom line, if you can turn off start/stop, do it.

Thanks, that was one of the first things I did

AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries are generally pretty good and will take a much greater beating than a wet cell battery. I’ve had fairly good luck with them on off-road vehicles and boats. They will generally recharge from a dead state without issues. I would expect to get a 4 to 5 year life from an AGM battery in the Bronco.

if you roll the Bronco, battery acid won’t run out and mess everything up.

I used an Optima battery in a 65 Corvette. I’m pretty suRe it lasted 10+ years. Just sold it to make room for the Bronco. I ear marked it as my replacement option. I would however pursue the Ford warranty option through the warranty period.

I have an AGM from West Marine in my Willys CJ3A. Just replaced it with the same identical battery. Lasted 5+ years.2017 to 2022.

I could get warranty service, but they will just replace it with the same battery not to mention that I have to buy a battery to get the vehicle to the dealership 🤣 so I think I will just bite the bullet.
