So I just got a 2 door 2.3 Manual, it’s super fun and I’m so happy to have a manual transmission again. I’ve been looking at different mods and I’ve seen stage 1 Whipple kits and can’t tell if they actually work for our little 4 bangers. Am I correct the the intake and intercooler will work but the tune will not? The info on all of the performance sites is kind of vague. I put the stage 1 Whipple kit on my 2020 Raptor, it included an intercooler, Whipple intake and a tune. It was awesome!!!! The truck woke up and didn’t constantly throw trouble codes like most aftermarket tunes. Anyways, thought y’all might have the answer…..

I think it's just the intercooler that works with the 2.3L.

This was the 2.3L tune I saw a few times when looking at mods.

@LethalPerformance ?? Can you answer?
Have your tried the JB4? Really would rather the Whipple since their tunes are carb compliant and I had such good luck with the one on my raptor not throwing any codes. Hopefully @LethalPerformance will give us a good answer…….

No, I haven't tried JB4. I've read the same concerns that you're voicing. I don't even have my Bronco yet but I'm leaning towards the Whipple for my 2.7L. Apparently Ford Performance has confirmed a 2.3L tune but "aren't at liberty to discuss it yet". That would be very appealing to me if I had a 2.3L. I remember hearing Ford's tune was supposed to come out Q2 of '22 but that never happened. I am hopeful it shows up for the 2.3 crowd by end of the year.

Of what I’ve read and watched, the JB4 is a piggyback system with no trace of a tune when removed; Whipple’s tomahawk can’t. The guys at lethal seem to really like both and push the JB4 often for the 2.3 crowd. As far as Ford’s tune for the 2.3, I haven’t really heard anything other than what’s been said here. It’ll most likely be a modest tune but won’t mess with your warranty, so there’s that.

Whipple only offers their calibration for the 2.7L at the moment. I'm not sure on when we expect the 2.3L cal to be available. In the meantime if you're looking for an easy way to make more power the JB4 device works great. It's pretty much plug and play and the app you can purchase for it is pretty bad ass. Makes switching MAPs and datlogging super easy and on the fly.

Let us know if there's anything we can help you with in the meantime.

Thanks!

I've had my eyes on the panda power module for sometime but don't know much about consumer side of it and how it's performed.

Anyone know if the Whipple intercooler will work with the rough country hidden winch on the 2.3?

I know Mishimoto is working on a kit that sits in the grille instead of under it for that exact reason

If the winch blocks the factory intercooler then it will block the Whipple. The Whipple sits in exactly the same spot as factory. The additional size of the Whipple is all extended from the rear of the factory intercooler size. If that makes sense/helps.

I’ve been running a jb4 on mine for months. Only issue I had was self inflicted, got the bt module wet. Emailed jb4, told them what I did. Argued I wanted to pay for a new one, they had me send the unit back, upgraded my firm ware and replaced the bt module at no cost to me. I’ve had zero issues with the product or company.
