Why would the different transmissions have a different oil separator?

Mine certainly looks like the bottom picture. I didn’t think I could access it from the top. But, won’t have the hood up until the morning.

I'm honestly not sure, I was just trying to figure out why it looked different, and seeing as the engines are the same year, the next thing that came to mind was the transmission. Perhaps @flip could take a look and see if the PCV lines look different on a 2.3 7MT vs 2.3 10AT.

I was easily able to get the one off the orange fitting. But, I was having trouble getting the other end off. Is what I have circled that end? I didn’t realize you can access it from the top.

I was trying to reach it from the wheel well and without seeing how the clip fitting operated I was afraid I’d crack some plastic and be stuck waiting for a part.

UPR released this video which helped me understand how the clip fitting work.

I don't think this one is attached yet......it looks like it but it supposed to be "down under" the manifold near to the other one.
The two connections are like 4"-5" apart.

My only issue will be the lack of space under the can when un-screwing it to see what's in it. I think it would have been better placed nearer the vacuum booster.

A slightly different install for me because I have UPR - but, same idea. Before installing I realized the one hose was slightly longer - maybe 2-3”. Assumed it was for the intake side. Turns out it was probably for the PCV side because that fitting has to reach a bit further on both ends. There was no way I was getting them off once they clicked. Zero room to get any leverage to press the buttons to release from the vacuum fitting. I made it look neat and zip tied it to avoid hitting the control arm or steering shaft.

The distance is close enough to the mounting point it shouldn't matter at all.

Installed my Mishimoto catch can this morning. A bit more time consuming than I had originally anticipated but not bad. Had a couple of brain-stumpers that held me up so I'm here to help the rest out there with what I learned.

Follow the Mishimoto instructions with assembly of the catch can / bracket assembly. Mount the can and attach the hoses.
Next chock, emergency brake and jack up the driver front wheel. You're gonna want that sucker off for access.
Remove the wheel and fender liner. Not mentioned in the included install instructions. You'll then be able to see the air/oil separator attached to the driver side of the motor.
The return line is at the top of the motor, just inboard of the brake reservoir, between the 2 white fittings. Push the gray button and pull the fitting off. It should release easily. If not, push in while pressing the button. This will help you get the other side off.
Behind the steering shaft you'll see the lower fitting. Using a long reach trim tool with a hook on it, pull the small blue tab towards you as you pull the hose off. took me forever to figure out how the tab works. 1, because no one has mentioned it, 2, because you can't see it until it's off.
Once that's done connect the "in" coupler to the lower connection using long pliers to get in there and push it on. Connect the "out" coupler to the upper connection and put everything back together.
Total time with the few tips should be approx. an hour.

Have taken delivery of the Mishimoto kit and once Bronco is delivered (or a VIN would be nice at this point!) it will go on.

We have a '19 Ranger but the GF didn't want to have a catch can so it will be interesting to see how the two 2.3 equipped vehicles do and what is captured.

Took me about 1.5 hours but probably would’ve been less if I just took the wheel and inner fender liner off to begin with. Mine is 7speed if that is the difference.

Also, when I was installing mine there was a thin film of oil on the connectors and I could smell oil in the factory PCV line once it was removed. So there definitely is oil getting into the intake without the catch can

Manual vs Auto seems to be the difference in hose type and location on the manifold.
