YouTube Ads

I have a YouTube account, and sign in when I use it. I seem to be besieged with long ads , 6-10 minutes or more each. If I listen to an ad for four or five minutes and then skip, the next ad comes within three minutes and it’s even longer. I’m not a big YouTube user - Trailmater, Trail Traveler and a few how to’s. I usuallly turn the sound down and do something else until the ad is over. I’m don’t mind watching an amount of ads comparable to regualr cable tv, but I’m getting way more. I have no desire to pay for ad free YouTube. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

You need to install an ad-block browser extension. Some are free, some cost money, some steal your data in exchange for being free... but that's what you need.

There are other ways, but browser extensions are the easiest.

Some background info as someone who has a YouTube channel....

The ads at the beginning of a video are added by YouTube.

The ads you see in the middle of the video are added by the YouTube creator. So... say you are watching a Trailmater video and three minutes into the video you run into an advertisement. The decision to add those advertisements in the middle of the video was made by Trailmater himself. Any money those advertisements generate are split between YouTube and Trailmater.

So if you want less ads in the middle of the video, you just have to watch YouTube channels that don't add mid-roll advertisements to their videos. Or, like I said earlier, just add an ad-block browser extension so you see zero ads. (But with zero ads the creator doesn’t get any kickback from those ads.)
