Howdy! Just got my 2022 4 door Badlands with the 2.7 liter. I want to mount a winch, but the only decent place is right in front of a cooler. I’ve been out rock crawling and noticed the trans temp up around 215. Not sure what normal range is. I’m just concerned about blocking that cooler with the winch. Any suggestions?

While I’m not an engineer, and this opinion is just mine, I’d think that going at speeds necessary to potentially “impede“ incoming airflow, you’d also be greeted with the benefits of a disrupted airflow stream, which might facilitate incoming flow.

CFD engineers, feel free to school me.

[edit] along the same lines as why they put indentations (dots) on golf balls.

I have seen 225-230 highest going over mountain passes with both my unmodified FE and Badlands. I have not see any difference crawling with my winch which is a good portion of the yellow zone, but it really doesn't block that much if you take a close look

Oh man, I'd be careful. if you put so much as an extra pebble on the front of your vehicle, it will inhibit airflow to the point of overheating and failure. Doubly so in a place like Lost Wages!
I know this, because I was schooled by another Lost Wages resident a while back, and man, have I ever been sorry! My air filtration is still top-notch though.

The above is entirely horseshit. short of actively putting saran wrap over the front of your vehicle, you'll probably be fine. Even the official Ford mount and winch from Warn seems to be in front of things but works just fine.

I was on a trail yesterday slow speed not really working all that hard, less than 40 degree air temps ,oil and trans temp hovered around 215, as they usually do. I'm assuming normal. I just wouldn't block the intercooler (red zone in post above), though that would be the best spot otherwise. FYI I have te RC hidden mount.
