I think it wiser to secure the phone and the carry firearm. Even a minor accident or rough/erratic/emergency driving will send those 2 crucial items flying around the vehicle and out of your reach in a moment when you may need them most..
^^^This.
Especially the Glock. In a vehicle, a Glock needs to be either in a quick-safe, a mag mount, in a holster, or in your paw.
Anywhere else is begging for a negligent discharge when TSHTF.

There is a cubby in the dash for it.
My iPhone 17 is too big to fit flat in there with the cord plugged in. I bought a pocket that hangs from the console grab handle but my wife leaves so much crap in there that there’s no room for my phone. Half the time it just rides upside down in a cupholder with the cord sticking up.

I was thinking about this over the weekend while riding around and I thought of the following...

Would a slide in phone holder that is held by adhesive take to the top side of the "cubby" in front of the cupholder/gear shift work? It could be somewhat open so there wouldn't be any overheating, or at least limit it. You could slide it in with the charging port showing to plug it in. It would leave that space mostly open for other items. I did find something on Amazon that could work, but not exactly what I was imagining. If I had a 3d printer I'd give it a whirl. I hope my description makes sense.

Magnet mounts for handguns are hot garbage.
I've seen them come off on a hard pothole hit.
Much less if things get rough.

I haven’t gamed out how well it would work on the Bronco yet, but I’ve seen pretty secure-looking holster solutions mounted on the underside of the steering column in some vehicles. If you regularly drive in places where car jacking is a thing, that might be appealing. Of course those are often areas you can’t carry anyway. In my region, that would be DC.

I don’t have a phone mount, but considering one (and maybe an iPad mount) for one reason: sometimes it’s useful out on the trails to look at two apps at once.

OnX in offline mode, with a downloaded map, is quite good, but its CarPlay app UI is quite limited compared to the tablet or phone version. Sometimes I find myself using the phone version while simultaneously having the OnX CarPlay app on my 12ā€ Ford screen. Thus far this is most pragmatic with the phone in a co-pilot’s hand, but maybe she’s not always going to be on every trip.

And … I’m up in the mountains, and I’ve ventured across wide swaths of desolate UT, NV, AZ and NM, with a Garmin InReach, but there are surprisingly few places where you really get zero bars for an extended period. So I’ve found it’s often also useful to check where you are in OnX vs Google Maps satellite view in real time (in you have bars).

I’ve been lucky to have a trusty co-pilot along on all my extended trips except one. She was doing real time weather reports last time we crossed the Rockies in freezing rain/snow and that saved our butts. Knowing what I know now, if I was solo, a mount would be useful. I wish Siri was better.
I know almost nothing of tech, but almost bought a phone mount because the Android Auto version of OnX was pretty poor. It seems much better lately, I think it's updated. I bounce between Google and OnX, sometimes in limited coverage Google is better.

With Apple Carplay there is almost no reason for me to have to look at my phone while driving, and you shouldn't be doing that anyway. Absolutely love my Course phone mount that securely holds and charges my iPhone out of the way, and looks like factory equipment for the Bronco.

This is a really clean, convenient, yet out of the way approach. I accomplished pretty much the same thing as the Course approach using the following mount: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1571919855/ford-bronco-magsafe-phone-mount-2021
and the Qi2 charger from this:

Works like a charm for me.
