how is the portable flat tow system working for you? Easy install compared to a permanent system.

Which one, Portable Flat Tow Brake System, or permanent one?
I have the RVI 2, I think they are upto 3 now. I used it in my old Rubicon and moved it to the Bronco. Probably been running it 12 years now, no issues. Works when i want, how i want. A friend has version 3 and honestly I don't like it as well. It has tablet based controls and I prefer my simple cigarette lighter, push button controlled unit.
I have an older model of the portable Blue Ox Patriot brake. I got a pretty good deal on it a few years ago when they replaced it with the next generation and it seems to be working pretty well for me. The only issues I've had are that the radio link to the little feedback console in the RV was interfered with by some wide load chase vehicle radio transmissions causing me a little consternation. Also, during a hard braking episode, it can take a little while for the accelerometers in the unit to register that braking is no longer required and release the brake. Other than those things it's pretty easy to install and take out and seems reliable.
Personally, I went with NO additional braking system. Purchased the ready-brute tow bar which included a integrated mechanical braking system. It has worked very well. I believe if I could reduce adding more components that could break the better it would be. It does not require any electronics or additional power requirements.
