Which is the more reliable engine 2.3 or 2.7?

No trap...seriously just curious if one engine is known to be more reliable than the other. I have ordered mine with the 2.7, but as with everything I have read pros and cons for each.

Both seem relatively good. Wouldnt base my decision on that. Seems more issues with 2.7 in 2021 but that’s anecdotal

No trap...seriously just curious if one engine is known to be more reliable than the other. I have ordered mine with the 2.7, but as with everything I have read pros and cons for each.
He was referring to the "Whats a henway" (hen weigh) About 2 pounds is the normal answer.

Don't let the issue with the 2.7 taint the decision. It was a bad batch of valves and did not have a massive list of failures. But it was pretty dramatic for those that had it happen. It was an outlier that seems to be less than 200 engines involved to date.

Per crank rotation, a 6 has more pistons in bang mode. So it is having to do less 'work' to do the same as a 4. Go with the 6.

The 2.7 has a wet belt driven oil pump. Yes, that belt is bathed in the same hot nasty acidic engine oil that only gets changed every 10,000 miles or whatever horrible intervals they recommend. People like to argue with me and say it’s not a problem on their 2 year old f150 blah blah. Well ask the unfortunate economy car ford owners that have had this design a little longer what caused their engine to blow a week or a year after the warranty expired at 100,000 miles or less…
Most of the non-enthusiast engines-small car engines and v6s have had this junk put on them and even the 2021-up 5.0 now but luckily the 2.3 is still the badass focus RS style block with decently big turbo solid bottom end and a gear driven oil pump. Guess which one I ordered 😆 also the 10r60 automatic transmission is prone to have issues and the fix is just to swap em out or rebuild it the same way no updates, you can google that

I don't have either right now but try to follow what's posted so I know what to look for. The 2.7 seems to be fine now after the valve issues, lately it seems that turbos on a few have problems and then the manual transmissions being buggy on some builds but nothing widespread on either that I've read.

For what it's worth I have a 2.3 manual on order and not too worried that it'll be a reliable combo.
You can't get a 2.7L with a manual transmission ... (yet...)

Not sure if the OP is talking solely the engine, or the reliability of the Bronco with which engine option.

To sum it up...

Broncos with the 2.3 have had brake issues (like where they don't work) due to a vacuum hose that supposedly has a replacement.

Broncos with the 2.7, has a 2-3 month batch in 2021 where they could drop a valve. They also seem to be prone to possible fuel pump failures. In addition, they were also prone to having a pulley cut into one of the coolant hoses (which is supposedly fixed now with Ford adding a plastic clamp)

There's also been several people that have had turbo problems, but I don't know if that was limited only 2.7 or if it affected both engines.

And then the electrical problems, loose fuse boxes, modules going out, seems to be spread across both platforms.

So if you are looking for the most reliable Bronco, I would probably say 2.3 would be the better gamble. However personally, I never considered the 2.3 and have been locked into 2.7 since the beginning...and just going to hope for the best ;)

Haha I know you’re seriously asking. I think the other comment was referring to the fact this was argued ad nauseam for the better part of last year.

In the summer of ‘21 there was a bad batch of valves that went into some 2.7’s that was causing them to self destruct after a few thousand miles. Appears to have been resolved last year.

My 2.7 built in January has been a champ. It pulls for days and makes an otherwise heavy vehicle feel athletic. Would recommend to anyone considering a Bronco.

Both 2.3 and 2.7 turbo issues

Both are fine.

The 2.3L is a global engine used by Ford over the world. It is loosely based on the Mazda engines Ford used in the past and has a long lineage. It’s also the older engine. So I guess from that perspective it’s a more proven and refined engine.

The 2.7L is a relatively new design, but it’s used in Ford’s #1 selling product of all time that is critical to their continued success. So… obviously not some throwaway engine. The 1st generation 2.7L had some problems, but we’re on the second generation and most of those major issues have been fixed.

My personal opinion? 2.3L all the way, primarily because it’s the only option with a manual. But if I had bought an automatic I probably still would have picked the 2.3L.
