We read reports of people getting the MIC top painted or vinyl wrapped.
I want to have white MIC top and grille on my cactus grey OBX.

Who did the modification, can you share with us whether you would do the same process again, what were the cost, advice for us trying to do this. E.g. anything I need to mention to the guy in a body shop ?
I am inclined more to painting.

Also, is it good to wait some time for problems with the top to show up before painting?

Since vinyl has a much more limited lifespan than paint, I’d definitely prefer a paint solution.

Vinyl is cheap, a protective coating, durable, and replaceable.
We took the tops and roof off today (bagged them) and discussed them being painted. We came to the conclusion that for people who will be removing their panels, paint is a really poor option. It will chip because of the sharp edges on the panels. Paint has a tendency to pop/chip off edge surfaces exposed even to relatively minor point impacts. Not to mention the high risk of paint getting scratched.

If you can wrap it, that is absolutely the best way to go. Why? MIC tops crack and bubble, sometimes years later. Paint it and you're S.O.L. if that happens to you.

I had my MIC top painted two months after I bought it so it's been about a year I think. Prep and paint was $3k all in (including new gaskets, etc.). Took about a week which was fine because it was fun running without the roof. I don't currently have a roof hoist/jack so it hasn't been off since, so no problems whatsoever.

This was just after I got it back from the body shop.

If that happens with mine, hopefully the aftermarket will have caught up with more cool options 🙃
Until then, I'm not worried.
