I suppose the Fed Gov makes Ford turn it back on if you put it in reverse?
That's probably correct... I mean, how else is the car driving public supposed to read emails, text thier spouse, call the office, send a tweet, eat a McMuffin, and drink thier Starbucks all while backing out of the driveway in the morning.

For the lower trims, isn't there a dedicated screen-off button in the dash near the AC controls? The upper trims, at least in my '22 Badlands lux, does not have a button and the screen-off feature is only selectable in the infotainment menu. Those with a button may be able to rig up a memory saving adapter like the auto start/stop eliminators.

Nope, it's the same process to turn it off as yours.

They had this button on my old F150 with the 4" sync screen. Nothing like it on the Bronco.

Another thing that is annoying is anytime I change the AC fan speed or volume with the screen set to "off" a distracting animation pops up on the screen. So you never can really turn the screen off.

I'd like to be able to disable these animations via Forscan and also set the screen to default to "off" mode on startup.

This unfortunately is what the modern driver experience is morphing into. I remember my first car, a 1990 GT mustang, which had a physical key for door access and ignition, manual instrument cluster, manual 5 speed, and no cell phone tray let alone a wireless cell phone charger. You just got in, drove away, and were one with your machine!

95% of the time I don't sync my phone to it, and I just have a couple radio stations I listen to... so honestly it's more of a distraction for me than anything else. Especially at night.

Also, I mostly use the Bronco as a way to get away from the screens I have to stare at all day... it's a much more relaxing drive without it on. Again, for me anyway.

I'm probably in the minority here, but if I could have opted to delete the TV, and have the climate/radio controls in that space I would have done it.
I was hoping the reason would start like ā€œWhen I’m on a stakeout at nightā€¦ā€

You could probably buy/make a simple blackout screen cover for it that pulls off easy.

Back in the day, my flight instructor would slap those over various cockpit instruments to simulate failures. I’ll bet they have big ones now for glass cockpit displays.

EDIT: I forgot about the backup camera and I don’t know if heat buildup would be an issue, so maybe this isn’t a good idea.

Yes. The backup camera is now considered a safety feature across basically all vehicles, as all vehicles have a large blind spot in that area. The backup camera eliminates that blind spot that a child or other object could be hiding in.

I find that if I leave it on 'night' mode 100% of the time, and turn the display brightness way down, I have no issues with distractions and rarely, if ever, look at it.

As far as I know, emails cannot be read and twitter is disabled thru CarPlay (Cannot confirm with Android as that is a sub-par operating system - iOS has its own issues). Text is done through speech-to-text which can lead to some interesting sentence structures, and I'd rather make calls through the radio than hold a phone to my ear.

The rest people have been doing since the portable cooler was invented. Heck I remember crawling through the rear window of my dad's truck to get Coke and sandwiches for everyone while driving down the interstate. I mean there was a time when vehicles didn't even have cupholders, you handed your drink to someone else or held it between your thighs.

Ok, some of that was sarcasm, but your absolutely right, "distracted" driving has been around a long time.

I ride my bike to work a lot on a major highway, and the other day this car starts passing me while I'm doing about 80. I looked over and this lady has a large ceramic bowl of cereal that she's holding in one hand, and eating it with the other, milk dripping everywhere, and probably driving with her knees. Un-fucking believable.

Oh I have seen some doozies. Reading the paper with a cup of coffee (a ceramic mug, mind you) in one hand and a donut and cigarette in the other. Doing makup at 80+. Pretty sure one guy was playing a game on his phone. Rolled past a minivan with an aftermarket head unit in it with the park safety switch off and aux screens in the back, very clearly playing p*rn.

It's wild out there, and all you can do is keep your head up and watch out for them, and give them the room to screw up.

Similar memories from my dad’s F-100. He had an inflatable gasket between the cab and the cap over the bed so we could get some heat back there when we rode in the bed. Had a pad and carpet back there and all the kids wanted to ride in the back.

I snapped these out of the manual. The descriptions are vague so the Display On/Off button may be available only with the base audio, 8" screen, or lower trims.

I really wanted that button to be there - having to dig through the settings to turn off the screen is awful.

I have a ā€˜23 8ā€ base audio. Here’s what I got, a damn ASS button…

You have vent selection buttons! My ā€˜25 has one button like that for vents and it makes a vent menu pop up on the screen and I have to toggle vents from there. I guess they were short on real estate for real buttons.
