I've tried so many systems over the years. I don't care how meticulous you are and how good the paint match is, there is always some type of blob. Light catches the blob and the touch ups are noticeable. I started using Dr Colorchip and I never went back. First thing I do when I buy a new vehicle is get the Dr Colorchip kit. The paint matches are great and the system can't be beat. You drop a blob of paint next to the chip, smear the paint through the chip and let dry. Then you use a cloth that they give you, along with a blending solution. You wipe over the chip and it removes the paint from the surrounding clear coat, leaving paint only in the chip. If the chip is deep, you can repeat the process with several layers until the chip is flush with the sounding paint. Paint chips are virtually unnoticeable.

Just went out to the website. Looks like exactly what I should get. I've already scuffed the inside of the tailgate door somehow.

Thank god someone said it, I just did probably 150+ chips this past week with Dr color chip.

It works phenomenal, and once you get the hang of it it goes very quick. I did 2 coats

Clean
Clay bar
Use rubbing compound to take out clear coat scratches
Isopropyl alcohol
Dr color chip.

Works extremely well

I also have a motorcraft paint pen for the larger wear points

1-step. There are certain (usually limited edition) colors that are 2-step, but the vast majority are 1-step.

The Motorcraft paint pens are just your normal paint pens. Has the lacquer base color and then a clear coat brush in the same pen. Clean the area, add paint to the chip, wait for it to dry, then brush on the clear coat. Done.

I believe the Ford/Motorcraft paint pens are manufactured by Duplicolor, if you wanted to do a Google search to see how they work.

Attached is the part number sheet in case you need it.

Thanks for posting this list. I have a "Carbonized Grey" Motorcraft paint pen from dealership that is a poor match for my "Carbonized Grey Metallic" MY24 Bronco (way too light). I notice Carbonized Grey Metallic is not on this list.

I have a kit from Automotive Touchup on order, we will see if it is a better match...
