Torque Wrench recommendations?

For me, it’ll be lug nuts and such.

Big things like this, I would suggest the harbor freight but I'm biased. For under $25 you can do lug nuts all day long. And in the 80-100 pound range is where I trust it the most (it's the lower ranges like 10-30 I worry about)

One thing to remember, accuracy isn't as important as consistency.

Outside of a Snap-On, which torque wrenches have good accuracy that won't break the bank?

Calibrated forearm seems to work well for me lol

I’ve had my Gorilla wrench for 15+ years - has the old style lock mechanism - but, well made for the $. Looks like they’ve upgraded since:

Then I have a smaller Husky for lower inch pounds. But, I’ve only had to use that once.

Running all capri here. No issues. Not expensive. Thinks it’s around $130 for the big 1/2”. They make some damn good sockets and t star bits too. Switched over to their brand 3 years ago. Have yet to strip or break anything and I’m all about breaking stuff.

No matter what you get, make sure you back it off for storage.

I like the Precision Instruments split beam torque wrenches, but I paid about 60% of the current cost. They are great because they are very fast to adjust and you don’t have to dial them down when stored. Tekton came out with a similar design for about $100.

Maybe it's just me, but my torque wrench that I've had for 20 years came from harbor freight. I've used on everything that needed to be torque (with the exception of very light lbs).

Ironically, The thing I've used it the most on is lug nuts...been doing it for years. Recently used it to put my valve train back together on my Jeep.

One thing to keep in mind, they always say they don't make things like they used to. With harbor freight, it was always China-made So I don't know if it's possible For The quality to get worse

I’ve seen the $10 Harbor Freight cheapo torque wrenches made in Taiwan and China. I bought a few of the Taiwan ones for a secondary tool set, they have been great.

Whatever you get, set it back to STOP or however it is marked at the bottom of the scale. Don't leave it on 120 lb/ft and put it away. They stay calibrated MUCH longer when you treat them right.

The split beam that I posted are tolerant of improper storage. I still turn them down out of habit.

I agree here. For occasional use (lugs and the occasional bolt-on), I’d rather not spend big $$$ like a mechanic. They need that kind of long lasting quality. Some thing is better than nothing (unless you have a calibrated firearm - like @C00TER). Harbor Freight / Pittsburg is fine if you take care of them.

Exactly. I always store mine backed off, and I've always made sure to never drop it or bang it against anything.

Like I said been going stong for 15-20 years and still use it every time I pull a tire off at a minimum.
