The typical Bronco Raptor shade consists of either “the flares are ugly” or “they should of built it as a two door”. Today’s shade is my pool umbrella mounted in two quick fists on the accessory ready hinge bolts. Apologies if someone else posted this idea, I didn’t see anything after a search on umbrella + mount.

I use the fists as mounts for a quick access shovel when snow wheeling, but yesterday it dawned on me to mount my umbrella for day trip and bbq on the Rubicon. There’s not a lot shade out there sometimes. It worked perfectly, it was cheap, quick to set up and remarkably sturdy. It was pretty breezy at times yesterday.

I definitely wouldn’t recommend driving with it and I would assess the wind potential before mounting like any shade set up. Mount it above the bumper level and it’s easy to open/close the umbrella (rear window down) and the tail gate swings freely. unfortunately, I may now have the nickname of “Mary Poppins”.

Two years in and I still just park under a mesquite when I can down here in Texas. Never thought about stuffing a pool umbrella in those hinge bolts, that's clever.

Great idea!

But it is still a more door with oversized wheel wells. ;)
