Just say NO to this option. Too much leverage on the hitch. A little more drop is all the OP needs though looks like it will drop on the way it is.

I like the Twist on trailer coupler's for many reasons, this is just another reason.
My bumper pull horse trailer has one.

The picture says it all. So close yet so far. Guess I'll be shopping for a hitch mount with just a little more drop :). I did get it connected without too much fuss.

Take the ball mount, remove the ball, flip the mount over and reinstall the ball. That will raise the attachment 3-4 inches and solve your problem.

This is what I did. I have a 35" spare and although I considered the drop down, I didn't like the angle it put on the trailer. I mainly pull a light aluminum fishing boat, so weight is not an issue. You do lose almost half your tongue weight limit with the extension.

It's 3 lug nuts, and sheds weight from the rear end while towing...
Remove spare.
Tow.
No more tow.
Put spare on.

Just to be clear, I did get it hitched without too much issue. A bit more fiddling to get it unhitched because of the way the latch opens. It catches on the tire tread.

The extender is a no go for me. I actually own one for my bicycle rack. Anything heavier is a no go in my book.

Someone suggested opening the gate hitching and closing the gate. That is a no go because of the trailer jack (actually shown in the picture).

A new hitch drop is in the garage and ready for the next pull (not too often).
