After “No Vin”-ing in 21, I get to go back to my dealer this week to put in my ‘22 build.

Most of my choices are set, except for the top. I’m in northern Ohio, so we get our share of cold/snow/ice here. Rationally I should do hardtop. But, on the other hand, I want my Bronco!

So I want your opinion. I’m leaning towards ordering a soft top. Am I crazy? My reasoning is at worst, if I hate it, I shop hardtop options a year or two down the line, or just sell the vehicle.

I've had soft top vehicles on a off. I live in northwest Indiana. Right at the southern tip of lake Michigan. Bad wind and cold. The soft top is not really that bad. Especially if you get auto start. It will be nice and warmed up for you by the time you get in. Just remember if you get soft top and then get a hard top when you switch from season to season make sure your soft top is dry. It will mold and never be the same.

One thing I love about softtop that I didnt mention was the freedom to drop the top or pull out the windows whenever.

With the hardtop, I could pop out the first two rows, but removing the rear cap would be difficult, and the rear window doesn’t pop out.

Went through the same ordeal as you, had to redo my 99'd '21 order. Agonized over that same decision, give up on MIC and get it sooner, or stick to my guns. I stayed MIC. My rational was: lets watch a few scheduling cycles and see if Ford seems to have their shit together. I think if they get ramped up to full production, orders are going to get filled faster than what the doom and gloomers on this forum would have you believe. Just an uninformed opinion. If after a few cycles if it is still a circus, change to softtop. Good luck!

I'm planning to get the sunrider front soft top panel replacement piece for the summer. We have a Jeep jk with both tops I switch out for the wife season to season. Also you have to have a place to store tops. The real problem that your going to have is the same problem my wife ran into when she got her Jeep. She got it and was like I don't want to do to much to it. Then she googled jeep aftermarket parts and lost her mind. It don't even look the same. There are going to be so much aftermarket for these things.

I wrestled with the same decision as you are. I changed to soft top for the MY 2022 re-order. The MIC top still is showing up as a constrained item from Ford. There are a few quality aftermarket hardtops that will be released in the coming months. I don't want to wait into MY2023 for my Bronco If I can avoid it. If Ford solves the top issue, I can order one then, but I would bet the aftermarket companies will develop a superior product.

I bought a soft top because it was in stock, *thinking* I could just buy a hard top in a couple of weeks... whoops.

I’m in Michigan and have a Wrangler with two tops, and switch back and forth for the seasons. I’ve left the soft top on through a couple of snowy winters and had no issues at all. I originally ordered my Bronco with the hard top but switched to soft top to avoid constraints (I have it and my Bronco is awesome!).

I originally wanted to just get the soft top but was nervous about making that my only top. The hard top issues allowed me to have a justified reason to make the switch.

I’m still not 100% sure I did the right thing, but am very comfortable with my decision. On my Jeep I never had an issue with the soft top leaking summer or winter, but did with the hard top (though pretty minor).

I’m at the point where I appreciate the Bronco for what it is, and am willing to have a noisier / perhaps even occasional leak for the value I get from the soft top. I don’t expect any issue, but accept that if I have them I will just work through it. If you go the soft top route, I suggest you do the same…. Let go and appreciate what it is, and if you have any challenges, just deal with them as they come.

Stick to your guns and order what you want. I have a late reservation and I decided to keep the deadly sins. I typically don’t upgrade after the fact and I’d be filled with regrets if I didn’t order what I really wanted.
