I had a rattle / creak in my tailgate when going over "sharp" bumps. It was driving me nuts. Was pursing the forum and found a suggestion to spray WD40 white lithium grease on the back side of the nuts holding the spare tire mount and tailgate hinges. You have to first remove the black trim piece at the top of the tailgate to gain access to the holes in the tailgate. Use a flashlight and locate the nuts and spray them liberally. I was not convinced it would work but was hopeful. Took a drive after letting it sit a day, and it worked great. Fixed. I could not locate the post again or I would have linked it here. I wanted to renew the post to let others who rattles and creaks drive them crazy like me, know. The pic is where the approx. locations are of the nuts to spray marked in green. Most you can see but the bottom hinge and bottom left spare tire mount nuts are not visible. I just pointed the spray straw in the general direction and hosed it down. I hope this helps someone else.
