Dry ice cleaning may be a better solution. You don’t want moisture/water in the electronics.

Is your engine bay coated with oil or some other substance that would benefit from steam? Unless there's some type of leak or you pass over areas that would bring something other than dirt into the bay I'm not seeing the need. I find occasional low pressure water and wipe downs with basic car wash solution followed by a plastic/rubber treatment like Perl works well. A spray bottle of a diluted RW solution like ONR with a couple MF towels can do small wonders if it's not filthy and it's very easy to do.

I've never steam cleaned (never had to), but i regularly hose down my engine. I spray diluted Simple Green all over, then hose it off. If there are an stubborn stains, I use a brush to loosen it. I've been doing this to my cars for literally decades. I do it maybe every 4th washing. My engine compartments are spotless and engine bays are pretty impervious to water and have been since about the time distributors disappeared.
