I picked up a 2023 Raptor a few days back. Just 100 miles on it now but though I would just give it a quick try in sport mode. Engine feels much better and 'free" rather than being dumbed down in Normal mode but transmission seems terrible. 3-4 seemed to be a real harsh change, like slamming gears. Is this normal until it breaks in or figures things out? Anyone seem similar?

Well there's a recommended "break in" period in the owners manual. I'd suggest getting through that first as the vehicle is probably still going through its "learning phase." I think it's 1,000 miles or something.

Picked mine up a few days ago as well. The down shifts are very noticeable around 3rd

harsh shifts with acceleration at times too

felt smoother on highway yesterday so hoping it will get better

I've noticed in Sport mode my 4->5 shift is almost always quite harsh and different than the other up shifts. I can typically avoid this by up shifting at a relatively high rpm manually. That's obviously not a practical work-around, more of just an observation.

I can't see any other conclusion other than this being a software bug. The entire trans (and engine and how the engine preps for and "follows up" after shifts) is all computer and software controlled. Hard to believe anyone at FMC drove and approved the trans software with a 4->5 shift like mine.

All that said, I like the Sport mode overall, even the aggressive downshifts and rev matching. They are like many dual clutch transmissions in sporty road cars.

There has been no change in this 4->5 shift since new and I'm just under 1k miles now. I'm not expecting any change in this magically at or past 1k miles due to "learning".

I found on my Raptor it only shifts harsh if I confuse it with quick back and forth on accelerator. It's a race mode. Let it do its thing. I love love love sport mode with Baja exhaust down shifts sound awesome.

After break-in mine up and down shifts very nice in sport mode. Sport mode is mostly all I use.

I run sport mode a lot. Mostly in 2wd, but every so ofter in 4A. No unusual shifts or anything. It will launch hard in 4A!
Close to 9,000 miles on the clock.

I think you have a good observation here @Braptor23_CO . In general the more you're on it the smoother 4->5 will be. Do any other gears do this for you?

It still shouldn't do it...

Have you heard of other non-Raptors with the very hard shifts in Sport Mode? We likely have different trans software...

Apologies, didn’t catch this was a Braptor conversation.

I can't accurately say which lower gears. Shifting can be tricky if I'm aggressive and then back off and on again indecisively. Probably not articulating this well. It learned my driving style, or I got more confident driving it.

@ToddGreen , @Braptor23_CO , @PA BRaptor

You never had or post 1k miles now do not have very harsh upshifts in Sport Mode?

Thanks
I don’t think I used Sport mode much prior to 1,000 miles, so I cannot compare before/after. But I don’t notice any particular rough shift points with my MT in Sport.
